seriously...why would anyone want most of that stuff??? if you use it, it's gonna be easier to track do...he broke one rule...don't trust anybody....especially over the internet....that brown-haired 19 year old with 34Cs may just be someone else you'd never expect.....
he left some easily circumstantial things around, like his resume, and email with a highly comparative name.....but, he was probably younger then, and thought it'd be lost in history....
and once again, ha ha to the secret service getting hacked......
but yea, I don't think you should worry too much, supposedly he's been caught....and you should be safer now, the holes he went through should be filled...

This kind of stuff is just going to get worse. As more and more devices start using a common language/os it will be easier to compromise them. I can wait for the day when M$ bult my toaster oven and it sprouts legs and takes chase at me.

there is an article on ars, how not only was it hacked, but a Secret Service agent was using his sidekick to transmit "Top Secret" info and that info was compromised as well.
now, knowing the safegaurds the government puts on (real) Top Secret information, I find it very hard to believe. Probably just some journalistic sensationalism, but still a concern nonetheless.
who the hell uses tmobile anyway....

I don't think secret service agents would send information which is TOP SECRET over a private server like t-mobiles. Time to stick it to my T-mobile friends

On REAL Top Secret stuff I imagine for the most part it is securely properly but I wouldn't be surprised to see people slip up.
You've gotta remember that not everyone in the government who has access to top secret information understands internet security at even a basic level. I would not be surprised at all to see that a few idiots sent TS information over an unsecured channel.

When it comes to TS it is all done on a completly seperate network. Not allowed to travel over public lines unless encrypted at a specific level. T Mobile does not have that level of encryption built into their phones. In fact there are only a handful of devices that can plug into the public sector and legally transmit TS information, I think there are 1 or 2 cell phones but they were built by a specific agency

As Evan said it was probably sensationalism at best and the way you've explained things pretty much confirms that this was probably what that was. Still, I can't help but to think there are stupid people doing stupid things with sensitive info somewhere. I've seen some of that kind of stuff myself with Homeland Security.

Chad just to play counterpoint, keep in mind that all agencies do things differently.
While most likely they secure their information just as securely (if not more) as the intelligence agencies, its not automatic to compare their TS info with what you deal with.
And I think we have all seen people who get desensitized to the importance of the info, and get careless with it.
And the author was probably using "Top Secret" term for dramatic effect anyway, so that type of material is most likely not involved.

Well, the TS that you can go to jail for is what I was talking about. There are only a handful of agencies that can classify TS and they all have to follow the same rules. Sure, there are 'others' that call their work Top Secret, but in fact, it is not.
