Why's that? Because out of 500 vehicles ONE test GT developed a hairline crack in a front control arm and ford decided to replace that piece on ALL GT's? Show me a car manufacturer that has no recals and I'll show you a manufacturer that doesn't make cars.

No recalls on the Enzo.

It's not that Ford had a recall. It's that for all the hullabaloo about the Ford GT, and as much money as Ford spent in production, design, marketing and all that, they're having a safety recall on the control arm. Not like, "Dome light could malfunction in high humidity" but "loss of control of vehicle could result from control arm failure".

Nice. And considering that more than a few people would be tracking these, it's just a little funny that ford's flagship has a recall, period.

I'm not really surprised. You're right, all car makers have recalls. But for the already over-priced GT, come on...an error in the casting process that they don't know how to fix and they're advising owners not to drive the car until the matter is resolved? Sheesh. What if it was your daily driver?

- G.Irish - 12-24-2004

This is rather unfortunate because nothing is worse than having problems with your halo car. This will give all the naysayers all the more ammunition to hate on Ford. Its a shame because it really is a great car.

I'd like to know what management or engineering failures led to this problem. I remember being kind of skeptical about the whole fastrack development thing with the GT and I wonder if that had anything to do with it. From what little I've seen it sounds like a problem with a supplier but damn that's no small oversight.

POS Ferrari

Ford had to recal this, they found a problem and sold a $150k car to people with more $$$ than sense for 2-3x that. What if something happened to one of them? Ford would get their asses sued off.

Fix or recall daily

- CaptainHenreh - 12-25-2004

Chad, did you even read my post? I can use google as well as anyone else, and I saw the recall on the 360. But frankly, "powersteering hose may leak" seems alot less hardcore than "control arm cracks". I'm not an engineer, of course.

But that wasn't my point. You expect recalls on a carmaker's pedestrian vehicles. You expect recalls on a Taurus. (excuse me, a Five Hundred) But your Halo car? The car that you make to end all cars? The car that people are supposed to think of when they hear your name? And within three months you're telling people to NOT DRIVE IT?

C'mon. Just own up that Ford screwed up. They rushed a product to meet a deadline and corners got cut. It's ok. GM screws up all the time. Remember the Aztec?

- G.Irish - 12-25-2004

Bwahaha! Typical Ferrari.

That does, yes, but what about this one which he also quoted?

Cars are cars, and they are tested by real people. Real people make mistakes, real cars will have recalls. Bleh bleh blah blah.

- Evan - 12-25-2004

there was a casting flaw. there were no incidents that forced the recall, and no failures.

stop turning this into an excuse to bash ford and grow up

- Dave - 12-25-2004

why don't we just agree that it sucks that it happened, its not the end of the world and that yes, even expensive cars, are allowed to have flaws too.

Dave Wrote:why don't we just agree that it sucks that it happened, its not the end of the world and that yes, even expensive cars, are allowed to have flaws too.

Agreed. I think people who were going to buy a Ford GT will still buy one anyway. Kind of like the people who still bought the E46 M3 despite the grenading S54.

- Feersty - 12-26-2004

Sucks about the Ford GT, at least they are owning up to it, can't wait to see one on the road once the problem is smoothed out.

Please, you are bashing a company that you don't really seem to know anything about, just jumping on a bandwagon. The 500 is not the tarus replacement, Ford is still making the Tarus. Like it was pointed out above, the 360 had a serious recal. The DO NOT DRIVE was just to cover Fords butt incase some billionaire happened to be driving his GT and something broke they can't be sued out of business.

Please, I'm not bashing anyone or anything. I was merely commenting. And if one person can sue Ford out of business, well, that sort of says something about ford, now doesn't it.

All I was saying was that Ford has a history of rushing things to production, and having serious safety issues overlooked. That is all. I'm sure that other companies have done the same thing. Your Ferrari example, though it does have serious recalls, just shows that they are very different companies. If I have a 360, I can have it taken to Ferrari, and they will fix the problem. If I have a GT, I'm still waiting for a solution.

Chad, just because you LIKE Fords, doesn't mean they're infallible. I may not be all "Yippie skippy for FoMoCo hooray!", but I'm not just "jumping on a bandwagon". I have enough respect for YOU to not make this personal, I'd appreciate the same courtesy shown to me. I don't hate Fords, though you seem to think that everyone but you does.

Damn, can't imagine what these things will go for in like 20 years! Speaking of which, I wonder what an F40 is going for these days...
