0-mile Z!!! - JohnC - 12-15-2004 Stupid odometer. Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. I disassembled and cleaned it, but it still doesn't work consistently (ie - my drive to work should be in the neighborhood of 24 miles, but the Z thinks it's anywhere between 5 and 20). None of the used-parts places have the odometer assembly. Ebay is useless. So the Z is getting a brand new odometer from Nissan. 0 miles on the clock, baby! - .RJ - 12-15-2004 Couldnt you swap out the whole cluster with a used one with approx the same mileage? - JohnC - 12-15-2004 .RJ Wrote:Couldnt you swap out the whole cluster with a used one with approx the same mileage? It's actually just the motor/control circuit that I want, the actual odo gears are fine. But of course it's specific to a '90TT, and I haven't been able to find one. And anyway, its fairly likely that a different cluster of the same age would have the same problem anyhow. - white_2kgt - 12-15-2004 Why even bother? --chad - JohnC - 12-15-2004 white_2kgt Wrote:Why even bother? So I can keep on top of maintenance intervals. - Mike - 12-15-2004 you can roll the new odometer up to match what the car actually has. - JohnC - 12-15-2004 MichaelJComputer Wrote:you can roll the new odometer up to match what the car actually has. Yup. Is that a legal requirement? Obviously I wouldn't try (or be able) to pass it off as a 0 or low-mileage car, but does the law say I have to get out my Dremel tool at rotate it up to the current mileage? - Mike - 12-15-2004 nope. legal requirement is that you don't try to falsify the mileage when selling it. if i were you'd i'd get a pic of the old odometer if you p[lan on rtashing it... just for records sake. - JohnC - 12-15-2004 MichaelJComputer Wrote:nope. legal requirement is that you don't try to falsify the mileage when selling it. if i were you'd i'd get a pic of the old odometer if you p[lan on rtashing it... just for records sake. Did that already, before I disassembled it the first time. And I've already got an incorrect-mileage title from the DMV (because I knew it had an issue to begin with). - Ryan T - 12-15-2004 How long has it been like that? Is it possible that your car has a lot more miles on it than you thought when you bought it? - JohnC - 12-15-2004 Ryan T Wrote:How long has it been like that? Is it possible that your car has a lot more miles on it than you thought when you bought it? It is certainly possible - the previous owner had a post on TT.net that the odo started being inconsistent in March of 2004. I bought the car in September. I doubt that it's *way* off, but with the odometers on these cars so easy to fudge, one never knows... - Evan - 12-15-2004 how much is the new odo? another option (From left field..), If you want to knock out several birds with one stone, you could pick up a Mychron, which has an odo and hours usage. Among other very nice things like laptimes, full array of gauges, data aq, etc. (Which of course comes down to how much you want to spend) - JohnC - 12-15-2004 Evan Wrote:how much is the new odo? $150 - and probably a month or so wait to actually get the part from Nissan... Evan Wrote:another option (From left field..), Sounds like fun - the units I found looked like around $800-$1000, which unfortunately is quite a bit more than I want to spend on that stuff at this point. Is that the same kind of thing you're talking about? - white_2kgt - 12-15-2004 mongooze Wrote:white_2kgt Wrote:Why even bother? Interesting. Currently the time runs up between maintenance on my car before the mileage does. Oil changes every 500 miles! --chad - Evan - 12-16-2004 mychron basic starts at $350 the mychron gold, which has an accelerometer and bunch of other stuff is around $850 |
