HPD doesn't care about CARB/50 state legal - Andy - 12-12-2004 Got ticket for going fast. Sucks. And apparently CARB/50 state legal stuff means nothing to VA. The cop wanted me to rev my car, thank God I have a EVO2, the two big ass resonators saved me from another ticket. Has anyone gotten a speeding ticket in the burg, are they lenient at all. - Sijray21 - 12-12-2004 i've gotten a ticket in the 'burg. if you have a clean record and go to court they're not that bad. For me...they just gave me what the fine was $50 + $56 court fees. i was going 41 in a 25. - Dave - 12-12-2004 I got one and they lowered it significantly from what it was, although I don't recall exactly what it was. As for the carb/50 rule, I suppose that is in reference to your enormous exhaust. All these hillbillies see is a giant fartcan and thats all they need to make it illegal. See, that is why I've gotten off for so long, cuz I don't have a canister at all! :-p - JackoliciousLegs - 12-12-2004 Luckily my exhaust "looks" stock - KPWSerpiente - 12-12-2004 Andy, sorry to hear about that. I've never received a speeding ticket so I don't know what to say there...but the cops in this town love to waste the time of guys like you and me with that whole exhaust thing. Nice that you didn't get hit for it. -T - Andy - 12-12-2004 The messed up part was that while I was pulled over, a 350Z just blows by us, loud as hell (Sounded cool.) I think that's what prompted the cop to check on my exhaust. Fucking z33. - CaptainHenreh - 12-12-2004 50 State legal is a lie. Any aftermarket exhaust is illegal in VA. HOORAY FOR STUPID LAWS! - Ryan T - 12-12-2004 btw, they can't make you rev your engine. They only test the db level at idle. You don't have to rev it if you don't want too. - JackoliciousLegs - 12-13-2004 Ryan T Wrote:btw, they can't make you rev your engine. They only test the db level at idle. Sounds like it could be true... but would you want to piss them off? - Dragon - 12-13-2004 JackoliciousLegs Wrote:Sounds just like the law that they can't force you to open your hood to examine your engine when they stop you. They have to have a warrant for that. Like Jack said though, do you really wanna risk pissing them off.Ryan T Wrote:btw, they can't make you rev your engine. They only test the db level at idle. My brother has refused to rev his exhaust before and the cops can't do anything about it. - lillitnn92 - 12-13-2004 CaptainHenreh Wrote:50 State legal is a lie. this is my first post, i've been lurking for a while. i can say without a doubt that this is absolutly true!!! i had a state trooper hand me a copy of the law. they have been giving them out when they pull somebody. if you can see past the legal mumbo-jumbo wording, it basicly says, you can't have anything other than stock. p.s. dave, the grey supra guy. i wasn't trying to race you the other day on 42. i know my place on the evolutionary car ladder . i didn't however see that lude in front of you, i was too busy tyring to look at your car. hope he wasn't with you. if so, tell him i'm sorry. i was just feeling froggy and in a good mood. i knew you were a member here. guess it was my way of saying hello ![]() i was in the green truck  - Feersty - 12-13-2004 Hmm, any introduction there buddy? - lillitnn92 - 12-13-2004 Feersty Wrote:Hmm, any introduction there buddy? as in.. hi my name is jeremy something else about the exhaust. can someone tell my why (or more like) how, a town can change laws that conflict with state laws? i don't see how it can "pass" va state inspection, but be illegal. i've always wanted to know that. - Ginger - 12-13-2004 Local laws can take precedent over state or national laws as long as they aren't in conflict with them. The exhaust is a good example. Fairfax county can say "no purple exhausts." Since there is no state or national law that states that all exhausts must be legal or what have you, it's fine. They can't say that you can carry around dead bodies, because that's definitively illegal... make sense? - lillitnn92 - 12-13-2004 but if va says i can't have a aftermarket muffler, exiting under my bed, then why does a "va state" inspector pass my exhaust? that seems like a conflict. i just call and pay the ticket because i know it will be a never ending battle. something else i can't understand. i have heard of a few EVO guys getting tickets for exhaust, and wings. if the car comes from the factory that way, then how the hell can they do this? seems like the state would need to take that up with mitsu and figure out. - .RJ - 12-13-2004 lillitnn92 Wrote:but if va says i can't have a aftermarket muffler, exiting under my bed, then why does a "va state" inspector pass my exhaust?
