unfortunately you're right, but unfortunately I dont have those skills =-/

- REED - 11-29-2004

you dont need those skills, just a CS roommate (who is willing to become your personal helpdesk bitch whenever you need)

- Mike - 11-29-2004

no skills necessary really... ask a computer geek friend which parts your need, then assembly is as simple as "this doesn't fit here, lets try it here."

Id find a way to mess everything up
Believe me
Oh and my friend was to lazy and didnt feel like putting it together at the time so fuck him. Im happy with what I have though, spent a lotta money, but worth it IMO

Cell = hype

just like how sony hyped the PS2 with exaggerated polygon counts and statistics before it came out

- Dragon - 11-29-2004

Priced out mine a lil bit ago, gonna run me about $800 to build it. Yay will be able to game again.

Whoa... I dont think you can handle anything faster than the pile of PII's you have dude.

Agreed. This is a specalized chip. A Computer process is a general purpose chip, this shit will never replace your main processor, MAYBE one day be a sub chip on a graphics board.

Some processes simply don't lend themselves to parallel processing. I very seriously doubt this will completely revolutionize the computer industry or anything.

Electrons can only move so fast.

I wouldn't raise the 'hype' flag just yet but it does sound like another guess of 'Marketing Dept Gone Wild'. I can imagine Dr. Evil saying, "ONE HUNDRED BILLION POLYGONS!" *pinky to corner of lip*

- Evan - 11-29-2004

hahah, says the guy who gave a CS 348 presentation on how teh PS2 r0x0r!!!!!11 before it came out Wink

If you combine sony's past reputation for overexaggerating (ie "10 times as fast") with the inherent technical weaknesses of bandwidth, efficient controllers, and coding challenges, IMO it adds up to a heaping helping of hype

Well I wasn't disappointed with the PS2 except for the anti-aliasing which was horrid but in the end Sega is a better first party developer than Sony. Really, had Sega not fucked everyone over with the Sega CD, 32X, and Saturn, Sega might still be a player today.
