Hburg body shop recommendations? - Beej - 02-16-2004

I guess this belongs in Appearance/Cosmetic but that place is dead anyway.

I need to get a couple bumpers and my front valence sprayed. I'll bring them in prepped and primered for paint, so I just need someone to finish the job. Any of you guys have experience with a local body shop? I'm really not looking to spend much money, as Nick325iS has access to a spraygun we can use for the cost of paint - I'm just sure a bodyshop can do a slightly better job than my virgin ass. I'm only looking for the paint to last a year or so anyway before the whole car gets done.

Any recommendations for a relatively cheap shop?

TIA.

Only need it to last a year or so? Maaco.

- Beej - 02-16-2004

Yeah, I went to the big building with the Maaco sign on South Main, but apparently the new business that took over the building hasn't taken down signs yet. Very nice.

Next closest seems to be Winchester.

There is a shop on South Ave and 42 that has some kitted and painted cars outside of it. If they don't do body work, I'm sure they can tell you who does.

Dan's body shop is the best around town... thats who I got to do all my work and turned out wonderful

Its on 42 like heading to Broadway and if you go there ask for Donald and tell them Wes Jordan sent you Big Grin

Hey Adam how about a muffler shop? I need someone to order me and weld on a Magnaflow 2.5" in/out muffler and nobody here seems to want to do it.

- KPWSerpiente - 02-17-2004

About the Muffler:

The guys at Monro on 33 are cool as shit and they do that kind of stuff. I would go there (I can't tell you to tell them I sent you cause I've only been there a few times) and see what they can do. They helped me out big in removing my old exhaust and later when I came in to have them use some air tools for removing the o2 housing from the downpipe...stupid rusted bolts.

im so pissed i couldnt pull my old magnaflow off of my maxima before they towed it to the junkyard. it was a 2.5 in/out, spray painted flat black. it was the only part of the car i really wanted back, haha

- Beej - 02-17-2004

Yeah, I had Monroe on 33 put on a Dynomax I recently ordered last week. They let me hang out and point out exactly what I wanted (my old one was installed poorly) the whole time he installed it. And I was a picky bitch. I forgot one thing and it looks gay, but at least it isn't as close to the ground as my old one.

I had him bend/weld new piping from my cat back (about 4' or so total) for $82. Pretty sure he said they had 2.5"OD piping too (he had to kinda use scrap 2"OD stuff on mine).

In charlottesville, J&C Body Shop would do it for you, dont know about price though, and itd definitely last a year (they waranty their paint work for 1 year) so if it started chipping or whatever theyd repaint it for you. Thing is, i think theyd wanna prep/prime the parts themselves for the warranty to be valid which would make it a tad more expensive. Theres most likely a better place in hburg though, cville is always a lil overpriced on everything, but they did a good job on my car, kinda steep price though.

- Mike - 02-17-2004

Monro does rock, but I'm looking for someone to order me a muffler too (hoping they know what is quiet and can pick it out of a catalog). They only carry Walker

- DierwulfBL - 02-17-2004

quiet?!??! who cares about quiet???? just watch for cops and when theyre spotted keep her under 3k in the shifts, thats what i do :-D, have yet to get a ticket for exhaust.

- Mike - 02-17-2004

I care about quiet when I have a constant drone on 3+ hour highway trips.

- DierwulfBL - 02-17-2004

just turn the music up Wink my exhaust screams like crazy at 4k rpms which is 5th gear 80mph........just gotta turn up the tunes to overpower the drone hehe

- Mike - 02-17-2004

My car has 2 speakers stock. I can only turn it up so far.

- KPWSerpiente - 02-17-2004

Ebaymotors.com is your friend when it comes to muffler shopping.
And then the guys from Monro will be happy to slap it on.
Can't go wrong with an N1 tip, big, loud, and blinging.

Apparently they're interested in giving us a club discount too Big Grin

- DierwulfBL - 02-17-2004

do they have a mandrel bender? i wouldnt mind getting some 2.5" header back fabricated but tuffy mufflers in cville just looked at me like i was crazy when i asked if they did it, like it was a disgrace that id want mandrel pipes on an import car, damn old people. Cause when the 4age 20v gets swapped in i need to get all new exhaust done so i want good stuff, and if they can do mandrel bent pipes AND a discount, thatd be even better

- Beej - 02-17-2004

So I'm all "What's up, off-topic?" and off-topic is all "not much, I'm chilling."
