Anyone thinking about pandemic car/bike deals? - G.Irish - 03-20-2020

With the economy going backwards at ludicrous speed I figure auto and bike manufacturers are gonna start offering massive deals.  GM already rolled out a 0% 84 month program, and I have to think others will follow.

I'm just driving my mom's car for now, biding my time, but I'm hoping some crazy deal shows up just as my signing bonus at my new job hits.  Anyone else stalking some deals?

I'm thinking I'm going to have the opposite problem. Was looking to dump the Ralliart when I got it back but I feel I'm probably going to have a tough time getting a decent amount for it. The backup plan was to race it this year and at least get something out of fixing it but looks like I won't even get to do that for a while.

It'll probably be the time to buy soon, depending on how fast the manufacturers get back online. I'm focused on paying off the heap I already have.

At this point, I'm just hoping things don't get too bad so I'm still making a paycheck. Between people going apocalyptically nuts, mandatory business closures a possibility, and supply chain issues, there's a chance I might be f-ed for a while.

depending on how long things go... I'll be hunting for some mad deals on either a new Tundra or 3500 Mopar truck.

Things are going to be lagging for so long across the spectrum of companies there might be too many deals going on for me to jump on all of them... i might keep my current Tundra and get an nice enclosed trailer (and solar system)

Bought a little too soon.  That said I am keeping my eye out for a fun car.  I suspect 6-90 days in we will see middle cost cars come down in price heavily.  I doubt the people buying 911 GT3s and McClarens will take as much of a hit as those in sayyy used C6 Grand Sports.

If the car market dips, I can't imagine what will happen to the motorcycle market.

I'm kicking myself now for not moving the e39 quicker, really don't want to hold onto it until this all passes.

It could go either way.  Someone buying a GT3 or Mac may be someone who has a lot of money in investments, a lot of outlays in real estate, and/or is heavily dependent on bonuses.  Then you get the guys who make a lot of money but are reckless with it, and a big stock dive like this could have them scrambling to unload toys.

OTOH, a lot more normal people can stretch to buy a Corvette, and they're a lot closer to ground zero of jobs getting axed.

i suspect this is the tip of the iceberg and the market's gonna slide for a while. between layoffs, lost savings, people holing themselves up in their homes, no travel, etc. car companies are accustomed to a big summer buying season (slowest car sales months are Nov and Feb) so they're going to be handing out incentives like candy come june/july, once they realize their lots are stagnant and the new model year rollouts begin in Sept. wait if you can.

Ford just rolled out a 0% 7 year deal. I agree, I think this is just the tip.

I'm curious to see what the high dollar brands will do. Might be some stupid supercar and luxury car lease deals to be had. Just saw an ad for an Aston Martin Vantage lease the other day...

You aren't buying one before I do

I'd be curious about bike deals...Oh and maybe bicycle deals too.. I'm gonna drive the T4R into the ground so I'll continue buying investments at discounted prices.

RE: Anyone thinking about pandemic car/bike deals? - HAULN-SS - 03-21-2020

I have a bonus check on the way. I'm still casually looking at 2500 trucks but I'm trying to wait it out for the GM 2021 updated interiors to drop before I pull the trigger

RE: Anyone thinking about pandemic car/bike deals? - .RJ - 03-22-2020

I've been looking for a 2nd house (cabin, really) to use on weekends and for rental when not in use.

I think there will probably be some deals to be had this spring - if (big if) people want to sell - they may opt to hold and ride it out, I know I would. And the air bnb rental market may be shit if people are laid off or worried about it. I feel like I'm hunkering down here because I dont know what's going to happen in the housing market 6-9 months out, and no housing market means I dont know if I'll be employed. In the short term the refi backlog is fucking huge, but past that? Who knows.

Go go go.  I *shouldnt* buy anything in the next 5 years-7 years as I should focus on some financial goals I have by 40.  Ugh 40, thats depressing.

HAHAHA.... 40 isn't so bad. i need to relook at my goals once this all slows down. this is killing my retirement plans... but considering we go through this every 10 years or so... we might as well be prepared for it. i just keep up my max contributions and line up the "retirement" house.

RE: Anyone thinking about pandemic car/bike deals? - Apoc - 03-23-2020

I actually liked turning 40, as it meant my age was catching up with my general physical lack-of-fitness.   Cool

I am most definitely not looking to assume debt right now. Maintaining consistent employment and no debt other than my mortgage is my priority. Everything will recover, but the next two years are going to be pretty turrible for the global economy. Layoffs will come to corporate jobs.

Yup.  This could get bigly bad, and if the people that have money wont spend it, it will big bigly long.

Hmmmm. Ford doing 0 down, 0% for 84 months. I could trade my truck for a new Platinum for not much more monthly. Ballsy, but baller move.
