FS: 1987 Scirocco 16V race prepped for SCCA IT - Senor_Taylor - 06-23-2018

Hey everyone. The guy (Larry) who was the finance officer when I bought my GTI turned out to be an old SCCA instructor and we got to talking about road racing. He eventually shared that he still has his car and it's been sitting for a while and just hasn't gotten around to selling it. I've never seen a car like it, so I think it's pretty interesting, so I offered to help spread the word for him. I'm not getting anything from this, he just seems like a cool guy and I'd like to help him out. (Yes, he is the one who convinced me to get the wheel and tire insurance, which I cancelled today).

Details I know (These are all his words):
  • 1987 Scirocco 16V race prepped for SCCA IT class
  • Mitch Piper 8 point custom roll cage ( $3000 alone!)
  • Highly desirable 2H VW trans with Quaife diff and 4.23 final drive built by BSI Dick Shine Racing
  • full suspension with coil overs / rear bar and spherical bearings front and back
  • Two sets of Panasport racing 14 X 7 wheels
  • Techtonics Tuning race header and exhaust
  • Every bolt on component is new including that last remaining factory 16V distributer and Suchs 4 puck sprung racing clutch – unobtainable items!
"No doubt someone will need to sort the motor before getting back on the track. Vehicle has been garage kept all these years –"

I'm working on more information and pictures, he mentioned around $6000 when we spoke this morning.

Whenever I see "highly desireable" or "unobtainable"; I definitely think how awesome that will be for a race car that sees constant replacement... Cool car though, where is Mark these days? He needs this!

Sciroccos and Corrados basically have unobtanium body parts now. Any of them in even half decent shape need to be rescued and preserved by someone who loves them, not handed to a cocksure 22 year old to tear ass around SPM with...

Or maybe exactly that, I dunno.

I really just like the thought of driving/tracking a mid/late 80s vw, but in reality it makes zero sense. Still hot though.

I say you make a bad decision. The people that have read this thread are the only ones on this planet that know about it and the guy lives near us.

Really trying to convince this guy to list on Bring a Trailer.

Wut. I am sincerely concerned for your/that company's finances with that kind of decision making.

But, yeah, that car looks awesome.

AHHHH - the finance officer at the dealership now that i think this through. Makes way more sense now, carry on.

Thought it was from your work/connection.

Haha, yeah, I should have made it clear that he works for Volkswagen.
