Gone are the days of we-todd-did and photobucket, and I see folks using imgur but it seems like any decent free service's days are numbered. Is there some way we could post images directly to this forum to make it easier for all and more familiar to the current generation of students? If so what is it? What would it cost? And does it involve clouds?

I don't think imgur is going away. It's the photo hosting platform behind all the photos on Reddit if I'm not mistaken.

I just use the in app hosting included with Tapatalk. Seems to work fine.

I think Imgur is stable for now, but nothing is permanent. Imgur actually does have a solid revenue stream and has less issues with hotlinking like photobucket did. Hopefully they learned from past host's mistakes. I think this could be something to be explored. Don't some forums host their own images and require you to have an account to view them?

Can easily hook up WP to save/store images if needed, but Imgur is a solid option on non-mobile browsing

That would still be on whatever server this site is hosted on, correct? We then have to worry about the performance of trying to pull those images all the time.

What kid of storage does our box have? If we're feeling ballsy, we could use S3. Maybe there's a WP plug in for that.

It's hosted through IX Web Hosting, who's been my host since college. I run a few sites off of the same account and my server (VM?) has a bunch of RAM allocated to it to alleviate performance issues that I've faced in the past with some wonky WordPress plugins. I think we'd be fine for now with what we have.

For mobile-based posts, Tapatalk allows for uploads and (I think) stores them within myBB. I believe I can enable image hosting directly through myBB and allow uploads directly to the forums. I'll check into it.

Tapatalk has its own image server.

Done, turns out there is a plugin that allows Imgur uploads directly from the "Reply" page!

So, click New Reply on any post, or make a new post, and then click the "Imgur" icon on the left side. You'll be prompted to upload a photo and it will upload, then paste the IMG code into your post. You can also drag and drop an image onto the Imgur logo.

WOW!!

I guess the easy way to do it if the pics are on your phone and you want to type at a computer is to create the post then edit on your phone.

Any chance we know where they end up and their visibility? Doesn't matter a ton for this content, especially since this forum is public, I just like to know where my bits are going.

They all go to an Imgur account that I made for MM, which is set to "private." The forum software just uses an API to shoot 'em over there.
