GCOM = shit - damnit458 - 10-12-2004

So I thought I might share an experience I had today with the rest of you.
Over the last week ive spent every spare moment ive had meeting with my GCOM group for our presentation which was today. We literally did nothing in any of the meetings until last night. Yesterday I skipped all my classes and worked on my presentation from 9 in the morning until 1, when I ate lunch. I then met with my group and worked from 2 in the afternoon until 2 at night. I then went back to my dorm, and worked on my specific part of the presentation until 5:30 in the morning. I finally had everything how i wanted it to be, and new my part of the presentation almost inside out. So, figuring I could salvage atleast one hour of sleep before my Calculus test at 7 IN THE MORNING, and presentation at 9:30, i went to bed.
When I woke up it was 10:15

I literally slept through my alarm.

So not only did i sleep through my exam, i also missed all of my presentation, which I spent 18 HOURS ON the previous day. So not only can i only get, at the most, 75 out of 300 points on this presentation (i hafta go to a lab and have my part recorded and give it to her), I had to go to my math teacher and beg for him to let me take the exam at the normal time.

Any motivation that I ever had to work hard in college is now gone. Cry , along with any resemblence between my gcom grade and any grade above D

Ah... the lessons of time management.

- Ryan T - 10-12-2004

Lesson 1: never go to sleep unless you can get at least 3 hours (learned that from E.R.)

Lesson 2: never spend 18 hours on a gened assignment.

- Chris - 10-12-2004

wow man that sucks... I personally never try and pull all nighters. I finish what I can get done and then sleep. I'll wake up early and do more, but all nighters are very rare. Start early on assignments...speaking of which... ah it can wait some more...

- Mike - 10-12-2004

fogive and foget! luckily i never missed an exam, but i slept through my fair share of quizzes and other miscellaneous bullshit. don't let it get you down... and most certainly try to work with your teacher to figure something out.

i slept through my gened psych final.
luckily, my art history teacher let me reschedule her final so i could take the psych final in a different slot

sorry to hear about your luck man. but definitely NEVER go to sleep unless you have a few hours to do so. if you're super tired, nothing at all will get you up in a short amount of time. i know this because i've slept through situations just like this a few times.

p.s., gcom sucked for me. i hated that class, i felt like it was just a class about how to give simple terms complicated names. i think i got a C in it if it makes you feel any better. you take tons of classes in college, this one is just a drop in the bucket. don't let it get to you too bad.

Similer story. My very last final exam before christmas break was friday at 8 AM. I stayed up the entire night studying. Finally around 6 AM I decided I had studied enough and was going to get a little bit of sleep before my exam. Well, I woke up, and it was noon. I run to class to see if anyone is still there, and of course no one is. Later that day, while packing all of my stuff into my car to go home, I finally get ahold of my professor. She agrees to let me retake the test because I was a "good student". So yeah, I got pretty lucky. I ended up with an A in the course, but I would have had a C with a zero on the final exam.

The presentation had to be an hour long between four people

We had to use powerpoint, movies, and other visual aids

We had to have class activites and other bullshit
On top of all of this she grades harshly.
Oh, and just so you all know. That night at about 2:00 when we were all disbanding, I told everyone that despite the fact that we put the project together at the last second, I thought that we would still get a good grade. Thats how much effort I put into it.
My group has at this time the highest grade in the class. A 78%. Thats how harsh the bitch grades.

oh come on you know you wanna... it will make me feel better!

- Mike - 10-13-2004

nope, as i told matt:

often you'll get a completely asshole teacher who assumes that since it is take-home they can make it as hard as possible. in a history class or something where you just need to reproduce words, that is fine. in a math course where a problem might require various different formulae in a certain order, it can be more difficult.

i've had asshole teachers, i've bombed some take-home exams.

- damnit458 - 10-13-2004

wait

wait

Someone pinch me

Is mike actually taking feersty's side instead of flaming him??????

Christ, what has the world come to...punk kids and their rock music Tongue
