Project Midlife Crisis - GTBrandon - 02-12-2018 Well, the Bavarian Boat has now come and gone. I love this car for everything that it is, but the need for a car that isn't 4,000+ lbs, has RWD and is a manual has overcome my desire for creature comforts. Because of this I sold the GT and am in the process of buying a 987.1 Boxster S. Yeah yeah the Cayman is better, but I want a convertible in my life right now because why not (don't actually tell me why not, just let me live on in ignorance). So this is the preliminary post as the new car isn't in my hands yet, but will hopefully be very soon. Not really sure if I want to modify it or not as I don't see much needed and will want to get to know it in stock form at first. BUT, if you have any stupid ideas (minus an LS swap) send them my way and convince me otherwise. First on the list is adding a way to listen to music, I could do an FM transmitter to start but really want Bluetooth or at least an AUX for better quality. I don't need a head unit as I never use them in cars anyways, but this might be the only option because of the car's layout. It has the Bose system which uses Fiber Optic so ordinary splicing is not an option and bypass units are not cheap. Wondering if anyone had experience with these sound systems and how to mess around with them. Called the MOST H.U.R system I believe. RE: Project Midlife Crisis - Jake - 02-12-2018 My mom's Crossfire has some sort of fiber optic setup and adding any sort of input to the stock head unit was impossible. Her head unit was made by Becker, who makes a lot of units for ze Germans - Mercedes and Porsche in particular: ![]() I was able to replace hers with something aftermarket - Alpine, maybe? - very easily. Crutchfield had the adapters I needed for not much money. It was definitely the cheapest/most practical solution to allowing non-CD/FM music in the car. RE: Project Midlife Crisis - Jake - 02-12-2018 Also, it looks like Dension has what you need for the stock head unit: http://www.dension.com/automotive/compatible-products/GW51MO2,GWL1MO1?startlng=&make=Porsche&type=Boxster/Cayman&year=2003-2010&hu=%20CDR24&img=porsche_cdr-24.png&info=CD-Changer%20option%20needs%20to%20be%20coded%20if%20no%20factory%20CD-Changer%20is%20available Project Midlife Crisis - GTBrandon - 02-12-2018 If I want to add a headunit, there is a kit for the wiring as I believe is also a Becker amplifier. The kit all the audio shops use is $750 just NOT including a headunit. There’s another less used one for $400 that I’m looking at but again I would still need a head unit on top of that. I was hoping I could just grab a $100 bluetooth adapter and call it a day but don’t think it will be that easy. RE: Project Midlife Crisis - rherold9 - 02-12-2018 Oh boy RE: Project Midlife Crisis - JPolen01 - 02-12-2018 You made a thread for a car you don't have and are worried about how you are going to listen to music?
Project Midlife Crisis - GTBrandon - 02-12-2018 Considering it’s a daily driver yeah I want to be able to listen to music, listen to the radio enough when driving busses Project Midlife Crisis - Senor_Taylor - 02-12-2018 I hope this goes well for you, Brandon. My motherly instincts and jealousy may lead me to be dissenting, but this will be fun to watch. I want to drive it. Thanks. The full tan interior in these things looks great but causes the worst reflection on the windshield I've ever seen, it's like trying to drive with a burlap sack over your head. The gray still does it a little bit but I'd consider it livable. Put a deposit down for the car, and will be going down right after karting to pick it up! Here's some info. 2006 Boxster S, blue on grey 46k miles ONE owner garage/hanger kept all winter every year Larger IMS so less prone to failure but harder to replace My personal favorite: heated seats so I can keep the top down in any weather ![]() I kind of feel bad driving this car in the winters but alas, it's time for a new chapter of it's life.
