Colin Wong, TBD - Cwong2325 - 09-15-2017

My name is Colin and I am a freshman geology major from Alexandria, VA. I became interested with cars at a young age, due to my uncle and grandfather both having a passion for automobiles and taking me to car shows. Currently, I do not own a car, as I am lacking cash, but I'm working on that. I don't really have an idea of what I would want to buy, so suggestions are welcome. I am looking forward to what MM has to offer and perhaps learning more about working on cars.

Welcome, there are many many what should I buy car threads in the lounge area. Some suggestions most people say are:

Honestly all these threads boil down to these suggestions:

GTI
Miata
Some variant of BMW 3 series
Mazda 3
Mazda CX-5
TSX Wagon even though no one can ever find a decent one (price or condition) but suggest it anyway.
Focus ST even though it's always immediately shit on
Lexus IS
WRX/Outback/Forester
BMW 5 series

And, when people ask for more sport focused:
Mustang
Corvette
Miata again
S2000
E36 M3

Yeah most of those suggestions are not within the range of a freshmen affording them. Buy a Civic or a Miata and never look back, dude.

Welcome to the club! Glad to have you! Come to the college solo and get some ride alongs!

Welcome, Colin! I'm also in Alexandria and looking to move into DC soon. Always happy to help with car stuff if you're home on a break and need another brain/set of hands/etc.

Ryan's list above is pretty comprehensive, pick your budget and there will definitely be a car for you!

Thanks for the suggestions. I haven't really decided on a price range yet, but once I do I'll narrow down my search.

Just sayin, you can get a 4x4 Cherokee for under two grand.

2wd XJ Sport 5 speeds dominate at autocross events.

Especially the two door! I wanted one so bad but just wasnt practical. Take a leaf out and cut the coils and you have an autocross beast.

Notice the Yeungling headlight cover. There's a lil turbski behind that beer box label.
