The more I think about it, it seems so. That "useless electronics" part seems to throw me off from it.

They were talking about building PCs in the group chat and I figured a thread specifically for that may be appropriate.

Maybe I'll come and play with you guys one day. I still think about doing a VR-ready build so I can play project cars but it's so much money to spend for something I'm not really going to use that often.

This and JaysTwoCents youtube channel for reviews of what parts you're thinking of getting, maybe Linus Tech Tips channel as well, but they've moved towards more ridiculous challenge stuff instead of part reviews.

I would definitely recommend against getting a 2-core processor regardless of your budget, as some AAA titles now artificially lockout anything less than 4 cores. I know farcry 4 got some backlash from this as it still ran fine on some dual cores, but I wouldn't want to worry about it.

i7 6700K skylake version - no need to splurge on Kabylake, performance is near identical on a desktop.

If you can swing it as well, go with the NVIDIA GTX1080, but I wouldn't go any lower than the GTX1060 6GB if you're trying to future proof yourself.

Raid1 some SSD's and you should be good to go. I would go with Samsung pro series. Otherwise, just one SSD for boot drive and a big ol' traditional spinny disk to save things.

Not really sure what there is to RAM these days TBH, pretty sure if you just get some DDR4 RAM you'll be fine. 32GB I would imagine is fairly future proof.

Also worth noting that AMD's new CPU line is cheap and pretty high performing (Ryzen) - same for their GPU line. GPU's get killed by NVIDIA but should run games great for a long time. Then again, you're dealing with AMD and their drivers/support is crap.
