Gauging consensus on possible vehicles. I need a daily and the s2k isn't cutting it and I don't like putting 60 miles a day on it either. I'm not really I interested in anything used at the moment that's in my price range and gives me something super reliable u see warranty that I can just drive and not worry about anything except fluid changes for awhile.
So just toying with possible ideas and seems several manufacturers have 0% financing options so I'm just browsing a few new car options although I will probably not end up doing it unless it's a great deal.
But what's everyone think of the Veloster turbo rally or spec r? I'm not crazy about 3 doors but it seems like it could be a good little commuter with a nice warranty on a turbo car from early looks. Focus st crossed my mind but Jake hated his and no 0% financing right now (maybe ever on fords)
I'm not even sure if the offer applies to the higher end Veloster's but Id have to see what the dealer or fine print says.
(Yes I know I'm talking about buying houses but sounds like renting for awhile is better and I need a car and can't find any decent 94 Nissan Sentras for $900 right now).
This is just a feeler mostly to piss everyone off and open the door for criticism from the bestest friends anyone can ask for.

Look at GTIs, even if you think everything German is a steaming pile of garbage, and you can't get 0% on it, just humor me and take a look at them. You can get a 6-speed S model for a goddamn song (probably OTD for $23k or better) right now thanks to Dieselgate and you're getting a hell of a lot more usable car than you will with the Veloster.
I'd also look at the Fiesta STs, lots of car for the money and I think you can get a decent amount off MSRP.
David M's GF bought a Veloster Turbo new and its a cute little car with a nicely put together interior for its class, but its very cramped and thanks to the low roofline you're not going to get much in the back of it or have very happy back seat passengers. Also, unless they changed it, they still use a pretty archaic rear suspension setup that can make them a bit twitchy with liftoff oversteer.
I was going to suggest looking at the Forte5 with the turbo motor in it, but it looks like the manual trans is a $2200 upgrade?! WTF? That's not a car worth 26k IMO.
If you really want a budget commuter I'd test drive a Fiesta SE with the "Eco" package. That little 3-banger turbo mated to a 5-speed seems like a riot to thrash on, what, like, 165 tires?

Ill look but I think I could get otd in the Hyundai for less. Also like the Elantra GT although it doesn't quite have the wow factor (if you can call it that) of the "spec" package cars. Also also, I hate Volkswagen. I don't care how loud the door thunks when you close it (see: stupid Jetta out Passat commercial)
My dad had a focus SE from his work and the motor was a complete dog and the transmission was pretty much the worst thing I've ever driven. Kinda steers me away from the base Ford models.
The fiesta st caught my eye a while back but Ford financing definitely doesn't seem like a deal and it just looks so tiny.
Also I'm short and you tall people can suck it up and squeeze in... Who am I kidding, I don't have any friends. Backseat is just for dogs.
I glanced at forte awhile ago and they definitely seemed more than what I thought a Kia was worth, even used.
The 0% might be a deal breaker though. Because truthfully, I don't want a brand new car (maybe like 10% of me does) but I could just get something slightly used or CPO if I was going to have interest.

If you dont actually want to buy a new car why do it just to get 0%? There's gotta be a good number of viable options in the ~$10k used range, and even with 2-3-4% financing that'll work out to be a hell of a lot cheaper than a new car, especially when it comes time to resell. :dunno:

And I get to cruise around without worrying what's about to fall off or explode for awhile. I'm just tired of shit breaking and just want to start the car and drive it and have nice cushy options that make my commute enjoyable.

Fiesta ST would probably be awesome either new or used....its the closest thing you're going to get to a modern interpretation of the OG Golf GTI. also probably the most fun cheap thing you'll find in stock form, so you can keep your warranty and just thrash on it without a sweat

Get in and go DD, with nothing to worry about... How about a Honda Fit for $4k less than the turbo crap mentioned here? We bought a 6spd one for work, it's comfy, has lots of room and good visibilty, and has enough power to get out of its own way. Suspension and shifter seems about as refined as a '91 Accord! And it says it has VTEC, but I'm not convinced.

Velosters are okay cars. I personally like their looks. Definitely does not feel like 200 horsepower though. If you do go that route, don't get the R spec if they want to charge you more for it. Only thing they changed was accent colors and a short throw shifter.

I actually hate the seats in the r spec though since you mention it. But if I remember, it was cheaper than the regular turbo. Maybe it has options you can't get? Idk.

Idk how long term you want it to last but a Fiesta will serve you for a longer than a mustang, much more utility in a hatchback, even a small one.

I'm going to be looking at those for a daily once they get a little cheaper most likely. On the other hand, the Subaru has been very good to me so far and it's showing no signs of rust in the normal spots. Might actually hold onto my cars for a little while this time.

That is barely cheaper than new... truecar estimates 18k for a base ST, so figure between 18 and 20 out the door. Not really worth 3 years depreciation IMO.
