WTB: 12x1.25mm threaded shift knob - SlimKlim - 12-12-2016 So my mom has been rocking an '07 5spd Scion tC since new and in the course of ~90,000mi has completely degloved the original shift knob. The leather is hanging in tatters down on the shift boot and it grosses me out. It's not something she'd ever buy for herself, but I'm sure she'd appreciate having a shifter that's all in once piece, so I was thinking I'd pick one up for her for Xmas. Except they're planning to visit this weekend (unless I-81 gets covered in ice Saturday morning) and I need to find something quick. On top of that, everything on Amazon is either dirt cheap crap and/or only appropriate for a 17 year old boy racer. I realize this is a shot in the dark, but any chance someone has a decent, subtle, leather or even aluminum shift knob in 12x1.25mm threading laying around from an old car they want to get rid of? Re: WTB: 12x1.25mm threaded shift knob - Senor_Taylor - 12-12-2016 SlimKlim Wrote:degloved :vomit: :vomit: :vomit: Re: WTB: 12x1.25mm threaded shift knob - Sully - 12-12-2016 Pay out the ass for some sort of TRD option at local dealer? Not sure if such a thing exists or how much it would be or how much you want to spend but may be an option. The one who would know is too busy puking at the thought of the word degloved... I think mine is aluminum and it gets so hot in the summer it will melt the skin right off your palm. She will not be pleased. Re: WTB: 12x1.25mm threaded shift knob - Sully - 12-12-2016 Also yea to what Jon said. Aluminum shift knobs are the stupidest thing ever. PO put the cr aluminum shift knob on mine (probably almost identical to Jon's si) and you literally can't touch it in the summer. You just kind of smack it really quick and hope it finds the gear you want. I wrapped mine in paracord(like a monkey fist ball thing) looks stupid as hell and makes in the size of a tennis ball but doesn't burn or freeze my hand. I'm too lazy and cheap to buy a different one right now plus I hate how rice or stupid most are. Precision latheworks makes alright but extremely pricey looking ones. My all time favorite was the zhp BMW knob which id honesty probably pop out the m badge and replace it with something else and rock it in the s2k if they made a threaded version Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk Re: WTB: 12x1.25mm threaded shift knob - CaptainHenreh - 12-13-2016 How much do you love your mom? ![]() Re: WTB: 12x1.25mm threaded shift knob - SlimKlim - 12-13-2016 I dunno if she'd like the wooden ones, might stick out like a sore thumb in an interior that's mostly silver plastic. At that price I could just pull the trigger on a Momo Airleather, which I might do if this potential ice storm keeps them from visiting this weekend and I have more shipping time to work with. Senor_Taylor Wrote:You mean like this? The second one looks decent but I'm concerned a $12 one would fall apart in a week. :dunno: Re: WTB: 12x1.25mm threaded shift knob - CaptainHenreh - 12-13-2016 SlimKlim Wrote:I dunno if she'd like the wooden ones, might stick out like a sore thumb in an interior that's mostly silver plastic. AQ8PDXR578</a><!-- m --> It's plain, Momo should mean decent quality, and it's sort of got a similar pistol grip shape to her current shifter. Re: WTB: 12x1.25mm threaded shift knob - Senor_Taylor - 12-13-2016 If you're in a hurry, and if a Miata has the same thread pitch, just buy or Trade James Watkins. We were just talking about how he doesn't want his shift knobs and he has two of them with the "pistol grip" shape. One if that weird fake wood the BMW shifters are and the other is like a stock shifter. Not sure if it's leather or what. Re: WTB: 12x1.25mm threaded shift knob - ScottyB - 12-13-2016 i had a momo airleather on my old honda and the set screws they use for fitment just suck. you'll end up tightening it over and over until something strips, at which point its useless. if you can find something that screws onto the shifter shaft, that's the way to go Re: WTB: 12x1.25mm threaded shift knob - SlimKlim - 12-13-2016 ScottyB Wrote:i had a momo airleather on my old honda and the set screws they use for fitment just suck. you'll end up tightening it over and over until something strips, at which point its useless. Could I just tell dad to install it with the semi-perm loctite? Re: WTB: 12x1.25mm threaded shift knob - ScottyB - 12-13-2016 yeah, and make it loctite red. the metal in the set screws AND the knob is soft. you'll strip one or the other after a handful of re-tightenings. i'd also wrap the threads on the shaft with a small amount of electrical tape to give the set screws some additional soft surface to dig into. |
