Drag Day - KPWSerpiente - 02-11-2004 I know not all of you think a car needs to turn be in a race so I'd like some feedback about organizing a day at a dragracing track once they open up. Anyone? -T - Ryan T - 02-11-2004 I personally like the idea a lot. But the nearest 1/4 mile track is either the one you told me last night or Bristol. If we went to Bristol, some of you guys could stay at my place. - Mike - 02-11-2004 JMULT1 Wrote:If we went to Bristol, some of you guys could stay at my place. I'd hit it. I'm up for running some 15s
- Kaan - 02-11-2004 i wouldnt mind pull'n a few 17 or 18s - Mike - 02-11-2004 Heck, with some drag radials and a badass launch I might even hit 14s! - KPWSerpiente - 02-11-2004 Alright, well I'm in the process of locating a track to go to. Under no circumstances will I waste my time at a 1/8 mile track...wheelhopping my ass for 9 seconds or less will get old after a while. Because dragstrips are run by hardcore rednecks, locating one via the internet is kinda hard. Everyone who knows of a 1/4 mile track somewhere within driving distance should post it up (name and distance from JMU in hours) here so we can determine what the closest one is -T - .RJ - 02-11-2004 Unfortunately i dont think there is anything within reasonable driving distance. There might be something in frederick, md but thats a 2+ hr drive. There is a 1/8th mile in Waynesborro.... 30 minutes away. Dont hate because you dont have AWD Launch  - Ryan T - 02-11-2004 My house is roughly 3.5 hours from here. And its about ten to fifteen more minutes to Bristol motorspeedway, depending on the road you take. I'm not sure how they are doing it this year, but last year you could only run on tuesdays and thursdays. - Mike - 02-11-2004 MIR and Bristol are the two closest. If we went to Bristol we could maybe spend the night there and get in touch with our redneck roots
- Ryan T - 02-11-2004 I'll take all you city boys out on a hay-ride on our tractor. - .RJ - 02-11-2004 Drunken Tractor racing? - Ryan T - 02-11-2004 .RJ Wrote:Drunken Tractor racing? Sure. How dangerious could an open top tractor going 25mph through a bumpy field be?
- Chris - 02-11-2004 Oh not dangerous at all! - Dave - 02-12-2004 i like the idea and would definitely be up for a trip to a dragstrip. - KPWSerpiente - 02-16-2004 Well I like MIR myself, and it opens up the weekend we start Spring Break, March 6th. I was already planning on going sometime that week....Sunday the 7th is Midday Madness. How many people would be down with that? -T - Mike - 02-16-2004 I would be, if I wasn't going to be afloat the gulf of mexico  Actually... my cruise starts the 9th so I could probably make that. - Dave - 02-16-2004 i could probably also do that. Got any details ($$, time, etc) - KPWSerpiente - 02-16-2004 This is based on a google search and my knowledge of Midnight Madness. 15 bucks to race. Gates open at 10 AM, Elimination (bracket-style) starts at 2:30 PM. Basically we'll want to show up early (this is going to be the second day the track is open) I'd say around 9-9:30. Yes that means we'll be sitting around for a while, but it also means we'll get through tech inspection and the very first few rounds without problem. I'm actually writing up an article on the site for those who have never been to a dragstrip before and want to......just covers the basics of drag racing and what to expect so if you have any questions that should answer them. The 15 bucks is going to cover as many runs as you can do. Basically there should be about 5 rounds.....maybe less maybe more depending ont he crowd before eliminations start. You'll have a chance to make one pass every round. Once eliminations start you run until you lose, and the way bracket racing is set up is that it gives both drivers an equal oppurtunity to win by giving a headstart equal to the differences in time to whoever is dialed in a slower. I'd expect somewhere between 4-7 passes but I have no way of knowing how crowded it will be. -T - KPWSerpiente - 02-29-2004 Bringing this back up. I'll be going to MIR on the 7th for Midday Madness. If you're in the NOVA area and want to come out post a reply saying so. 15 bucks if you're running (and why come if not) gates open at 10, will be there at the very least until 2. It is a hour and a half or so from GMU which is where we'd probably meet up if a few of you are down. I plan to leave around 8 to 8:30. -T - Team - 02-29-2004 Eastside use to have a 1/4 but got rid of it acouple years ago, does anyone know any info on Summer Duck? I cant remember if it has a 1/4 or not |
