Flag Pole Trip - September 2016 - Senor_Taylor - 09-13-2016

We will meet in the R1 Parking lot before 4 PM and head out soon to Flag Pole knob, then back down Union or Switzer, and back to JMU. We should be back by 9PM.

Both trails are relatively easy and can be tackled by stock trucks and SUVS.

Re: Flag Pole Trip - September 2016 - V1GiLaNtE - 09-15-2016

One week notice and on a Friday. WEAK.

Also, I'll go ahead and say that taking people who maybe entirely new to offroading out at sun down and night wheeling is not a great way to introduce people to the sport.. Trails move up a level (green --> blue/blue ---> black) when wheeling in low light conditions when not properly outfitted with experience and lighting.

This is great way for somebody to break shit.

From what's been in the group chat, everyone's hit the trails before. No ones actually new, it seems. A whole bunch of back seat drivers tho.

Gonna get my popcorn cause adding an extra 150-300lbs of people totally changes the dynamics of a vehicle offroad.

We'll be okay. I've been trying to feel out whether or not we could move it to Saturday midday. I'll update this soon.

Re: Flag Pole Trip - September 2016 - Senor_Taylor - 09-25-2016

The trip was a rousing success! We had a ton of members turn out and filled up most every vehicle. We were gone for about 7 hours and hit some of the challenging parts of the trails. I have about 4 good hours of footage and my computer tries to explode whenever I try to edit it, so it's slow going, but Caroline took some fantastic photos. Colton and I had a great time teaching and spotting all of the first timers and we were pleasantly surprised by how well some people did. We even had an Explorer running on probably 5/8 cylinders make it all of the way through. This will be a good year for MM offroading! The trip was pretty uneventful for me since I'm lifted and locked, but my cockiness got the best of me today when I discovered that quite possibly, a pulley has decided to eat itself. My guess is the 10 feet of mud my engine was under all day.

The coolest part is how we had an entirely different set of MM'ers all hanging together. The "usual" crew was not what we had. It's nice to change things up and have new people mingle and participate. This will be a good year.

Uh that white XJ. Clean. Who owns that?

So my first thought is November is likely the best time for me. Where do we currently stand with Turducken plans?

Re: Flag Pole Trip - September 2016 - ScottyB - 09-26-2016

that looks cool as hell. wish i could have brought the xterra up to join.

November would be good by me as well. Could we do a weekend of off-roading and Turducken all kinda nearby?

Re: Flag Pole Trip - September 2016 - Senor_Taylor - 09-27-2016

That idea sounds great! The XJ is a new member, Joseph Winn.

Is there a place around Kaan's? I volunteered to do Turducken this year but sounds like no students want to come up.

Peter's Mill is about 45 minutes down the road from him.

Video is up! My poor little computer had a hard time processing so much video, so the editing choices were strictly based on what my computer decided it wanted to handle.
