NASA-SE Sept 3-4 NCCAR - rherold9 - 08-09-2016

Just for some reason got curious and looked at SE's schedule and saw "NCCAR". Looked it up and it's a "12" turn 2 mile road course at the top of North Carolina off I-95. It's 1 hour and 20 minutes away from where I am in Richmond. Got me very intrigued as its the same time away as dominion raceway is.

I know it's last minute but I'm posting because HPDE's are 269 as well as racing and TT. They have a discount running for some reason in SE region. Really got me thinking twice about not driving until late Fall. If anything I'll be keeping this in mind for next season if I'm not going.

when i lived in NC and ran with the Tarheel Sports Car Club, they would do auto-x events there. my understanding from them is that if your car makes good grip, you need to have your oil system in the kind of shape to be able to handle sustained constant high g's. the corners are very long and constant radius so they'll quickly expose oil starvation issues.

BJ (E46 and M5 guy here) ran there once. the tarmac is nice but the track is basically elevation free so not the rolling hills feel of a VIR or Road Atlanta.

Yeah I've been there a few times, run it in both directions. After going to VIR and Summit, I think they're both more interesting/challenging...but it's still fun. Some of the turns are great for getting a feel for the car's handling, balancing it with throttle, etc.

And yeah, pack a lunch for the big loop turn.

#mostboringtrackever

Went once when it was first built. Boring.

Track looks huge (wide) and seems like it would be very difficult to wreck so that's always a big plus as it looks like bikes go there. It doesn't look very "exciting" compared to tracks. But less than 1 and a half away is a big plus and if they keep the discounts rolling for next season I would definitely check it out for next season.

It's always good to try different tracks regardless.

Prob a good track for you to shake down your car after the wreck to see if everything is working correctly... and at $230ish for a weekend, yeah that's a great deal.
