College Solo Autocross 2016 - Oct. 9th - Senor_Taylor - 08-02-2016
Nothing is final, but here is a rough idea of what's going down:
Date: October 9th
Location: Augusta County Government Center in Verona
Each school will have a different colored shirt and the price of the shirt will be rolled into the registration fee. Matt is working on the T-shirt design so hopefully we'll have something soon.
If we can locate the past trophy, it will be awarded to the school that wins. Scoring has not been finalized, but it will probably be pax based.
Since it is on a Sunday, we may have a cookout or something at JMU the night before so people can travel, mingle, sleep, then head down ~20 minutes to Verona. I'm down to have the cookout, but I may have to work Saturday so I'm not sure yet. There IS another BRR SCCA Event in Verona on Saturday, so you can double dip if you want!
Details are definitely not finalized yet, so if anyone has any tips on who else to contact, please let me know.

Damn... wow. Well I wish we had another option. I guess that means this thing isn't going to be a great as I thought it would be. The only other option is that Saturday or the second week of school.

I say you still do it this weekend and get as many students out. Work on advertising to tech, Virginia comm colleges lol and VCU. I'll more likely come up to hburg rather than VIR. Also that's only 2 people who would normally autox that aren't (no offense guys)

The shirts will be $10 and will be added to the price of the autocross as an option to pick when you sign up.

So far, we have received responses from Old Dominion, Virginia Tech, VCU, West Virginia U, and Radford.
It looks like UVA and George Mason's clubs have become inactive, and I'm still waiting to hear back from UMD. Most seem interested in the cookout as well, so hopefully we'll have a nice crowd!
If there's a club I'm missing, let me know!

Liberty used to have a club (mainly the wampler brothers through) and William and Mary came at least one year.

What a rousing success! The cookout was an absolute blast. We had the house packed with people from 3 different schools. The people from VT and WVU are super nice and a fun crowd to hang out with. Tons of food and drinks, we got drunk and watched Fast and Furious movies and the guy from WVU brought a nice steering wheel and pedal setup for Forza and we played all night. We had a big car club sleepover to insure everyone was nice and hungover.
As far as the College Solo... wow. 73 drivers. 30 of which at least from VT, JMU, and WVU. Tech won, followed by CCVS, JMU, then WVU. I turned some good laps in my car (wow, sticky tires are amazing) but placed 2nd or 3rd in my class and didn't get a trophy. I debated running Novice, but I didn't, which sucks because I beat the fastest novice time by a full second I believe. The Miata runs great, turns well, and sounds even better
We had SO MANY new people out, it was amazing. Chris, Ryan, Caio, 2 random people that got my mass JMU e-mail and attended our information session about autocross just to name a few, it was wild.

Mulique from CCVT got some sweet shots of everything this weekend so we'll keep an eye out for those.
I also have a video up of my fastest run. My fun runs were better because the pavement was warm. It was in the 40s or 50s when I ran my heat.
