DEATH TRACK: DOMINION RACEWAY JULY 22-24 - *insertusernamehere* - 07-12-2016 So I don't drive but I've kept up with all the hooplah and one half is all for driving the new track and the other half is wetting their knickers over the walls on the road course (assuming they aren't removed by next weekend). Either way I'll be there to check out the place Who else is in? Re: DEATH TRACK: DOMINION RACEWAY JULY 22-24 - Jake - 07-12-2016 In for Saturday/Sunday doing TT. Re: DEATH TRACK: DOMINION RACEWAY JULY 22-24 - rherold9 - 07-12-2016 Should be working if not I'll be visiting at the minimum. Haha Sent from my SM-G900R4 using Tapatalk Re: DEATH TRACK: DOMINION RACEWAY JULY 22-24 - Scott - 07-13-2016 I'll be there one day to check it out, but I won't be driving. For racing it looks like a disaster waiting to happen (see the one time they tried to race on the Shenandoah at SPR......), but should be a good DE/TT track. Wait and see. Shenandoah was hard on equipment and drivers, it was also logistics of a super small paddock that also ended it. I do think it's setup "as is" is going to be tough in a race. Trust me I am waiting to see how it plays out, that's why I'm heading up in a couple weeks. I REALLY want it to be awesome, it's 30 minutes from my place in Richmond. I was disappointed when SCCA canceled their track night there in May, I was planning on doing it. Re: DEATH TRACK: DOMINION RACEWAY JULY 22-24 - G.Irish - 07-18-2016 Yeah I was signed up for that Track Night and they eventually just had to refund everyone. I'll drop by on Saturday to check things out but color me skeptical. It just seems like the owners at this track were/are largely clueless about road courses and committed a lot of money to building things out without really knowing what they were doing. Maybe a case of 'you don't know what you don't know'. Hopefully enough of the issues will be fixable that it can be a solid part of the schedule. Not holding my breath on it being able to host bike events. DEATH TRACK: DOMINION RACEWAY JULY 22-24 - JPolen01 - 07-18-2016 That's my question. How do you build a road course and rely on the local racing community to do your safety? How do you not have a consulting firm for this? It's blowing my mind how many times they have delayed and how much they are trying to police people talking bad about it. That being said I hope it's awesome and I'm looking forward to checking it out this weekend Jake Wrote:What happened back in the day? Crowded paddock, no real places to pass, hard to go 2 wide anywhere, several totaled cars after meeting the concrete. Re: DEATH TRACK: DOMINION RACEWAY JULY 22-24 - .RJ - 07-18-2016 Jake Wrote:.RJ Wrote:Jake Wrote:Do tell... Nothing of any real consequence when I raced there. We all understood it was a tight course and qualifying was key... it helped that we had small fields. It was tight, one line course for most of it so if you wanted to make a pass you had to plan WAY ahead. In one of my races I got lucky and was able to use a faster car making a pass as a pick & roll and take a position, otherwise you had to be pretty brave under braking and have good exit speed. It was a better DE & TT track than race track for sure. |
