FS: 2001 Miata, 6 Speed, 125K miles - lxpeery - 06-05-2016 Figure I'll give this a shot. My Miata has been an interesting car. This was Miata numero 6 or 7, and my first NB. Runs and drives fineish, and in pretty good cosmetic condition all things considering. Wheels are painted the same black as the car. Plastidip in the picture. The pluses:
The negatives:
Honestly, I'm tired of dealing with it, and I have the money for something newer/faster/not broken. I'll be a lot more up-front and less "oh, it's not really a big deal" with MMers than I would be with some asshat on Craigslist, so ask any questions you may have. Really, just looking for offers. I don't have a specific number in mind. I only have one picture at the moment, but I can provide more upon request. ![]() Re: FS: 2001 Miata, 6 Speed, 125K miles - Scott - 06-06-2016 lxpeery Wrote:Really, just looking for offers. Re: FS: 2001 Miata, 6 Speed, 125K miles - lxpeery - 06-06-2016 Scott, The car is 60 miles away. As soon as I can get home to take pictures, I will. As for price, if it wasn't for the CEL, I'd put it on craigslist for $5,000. So take what I've told you that's wrong with it, place a value on that, and deduct it from five grand. I'm really not sure what to ask, as I don't make a habit of buying or selling cars that have this many issues. If I took it to Manheim, I'd get $2500. Private party, I genuinely have no idea what it's worth. That's why I'm asking for offers. I'd expect him to be on this like a fat kid on cake. Not kidding around, no bullshit of me getting there and going "eh, nevermind". Alrighty then. I think that the next step to troubleshooting the CEL is to replace the VVT components, which should be a couple of hours of labor and a couple hundred dollars in used parts. Like I said, if the light was off, I'd hold out for somewhere in the range of $4200-$4500 on Craigslist. For better or worse (worse) I bought the car in essentially the same condition, less the CEL, for $4800. Since then it has acquired a new timing belt, water pump, battery, etc. All this considered, I'll put the MM price at $4000 or best offer. Make of that what you will. Re: FS: 2001 Miata, 6 Speed, 125K miles - Senor_Taylor - 06-06-2016 Y'all act like we haven't already mentioned it to each other. It's really a crap shoot of what's wrong, could be a simple fix, could be more than the car is worth running. lxpeery Wrote:I bought the car in essentially the same condition, less the CEL, for $4800. Since then it has acquired a new timing belt, water pump, battery, etc. Doing the required 120k service doesn't add value, but it keeps it from being deducted. Between the caliper, the tires, and throw out bearing, even without the CEL you are looking at a $3000 car. All of those things fixed (plus painting the wheels silver again), puts you in the $4k-$5k range. It really comes down to how much effort you are willing to put into the car Re: FS: 2001 Miata, 6 Speed, 125K miles - lxpeery - 06-07-2016 Scott Wrote:Between the caliper, the tires, and throw out bearing, even without the CEL you are looking at a $3000 car. Shit, as it sits, I probably wouldn't buy it at all. Scott Wrote:Doing the required 120k service doesn't add value, but it keeps it from being deducted. Honestly, I would argue with you on that one. To someone who knows cars, I'd say you're right. However, the vast majority of uneducated car buyers will place additional value on recently completed big maintenance. From their perspective, it's a $1200 job that they will not have to do, and that absolutely adds value. I've had multiple instances where I was selling a car for top market value, and buyers paid more for an older, more beat up or higher mileage example of the model on the basis of recent maintenance. Now we're getting into details though ![]() Really, this sums up what I was expecting. I'd love to see the car go to someone who would take care of it, but I'll get the most money unloading it on someone with big dreams and poor impulse control. Now it's just back to the big question: what next? Re: FS: 2001 Miata, 6 Speed, 125K miles - lxpeery - 07-07-2016 Haha, this really blew up since I stopped watching it. Having the PCM replaced due to the recall. Have a buyer at $3,500 if that doesn't work out. Thanks as always for the words of... something  Re: FS: 2001 Miata, 6 Speed, 125K miles - Senor_Taylor - 07-07-2016 Hey remember when I said the PCM was fried and it was a common problem as soon as you mentioned it the first time? I remember. Glad you got it fixed. Sent from my SM-G900R4 using Tapatalk |
