4l60e to T-56 Swap Potential - allenrj - 04-14-2016

Hey all,

As i have mentioned before I have been planning to swap my car over to a manual for a long time and have been looking into different options and such and was just looking to get some opinions from the other members on a possible approach.

Hawksthirdgenparts who takes in salvage cars and such has a package to swap both a 3rd gen camaro and a 4th camaro over to a t56 from an automatic. I have read that the t56 before 98 need a different input shaft and tail shaft but I am not completely sure.

Here is the one option im trying to get some input for:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/camaro-firebird-98-02-ls1-6-speed-conversion-complete/">http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/camar ... -complete/</a><!-- m -->

The 4th gen pedals can be adapted to my car but I would need to purchase the swap trans cross member, shift plate, and a few other things so we can say probably an extra $300 plus the initial cost and whatever shipping will come to.

Here is the link for the conversion made just for the thirdgen but it uses the lt1 style t56 instead of the ls1. Since I have the ls1 already I figure the ls1 style is the simple choice.

Thanks for any advice and such,

Hope this is in the right place haha

98s are funky beasts. If you can, find a lower mileage or just buy a built T56 Magnum. Worth the money (and its not much of a premium). T56s are strong...kind of... Just needs a small couple parts and they will last a long time.
