WTB: Your Old Trailer Ramps - SlimKlim - 02-29-2016

So the driveway to my new house has a rolled curb that the BMW cannot navigate safely. I attempted to throw something together out of 2x4s and plywood, but my design skills suck, and as a result I finished off the already-mostly-broken passenger's side front bumper clip yesterday.

The problem is the wood turns into a slip 'n' slide when you try to get the car onto it, I could try to improve my design but I'm just not sure it's the right material for the job. Trailer ramps were the next thing I thought of, but ones rated for cars are in the $2-300 range, which seems like more than I need to spend. These ATV ramps would be perfect and are a reasonable price, but half an E36 is just about exactly the maximum capacity of them. http://www.amazon.com/48-5-Black-Steel- ... iler+ramps

Anyone have some old trailer ramps or some other solution for a steep rolled curb driveway that they don't need anymore and wanna sell me?

Nevermind, I stopped overthinking my DIY solution and figured out a way to get the job done.

IF I back in, on the right side of the driveway which is less steep, and use my little plank, she makes it in by the hairs on her chinny chin chin. Literally.

I had some time to kill yesterday afternoon so I investigated the wound.

The passenger side bumper clip has always been threatening to crap out on me, this just pushed it over the edge. BMW won't sell you just a bumper clip, they want you to buy the entire thing, so I salvaged one off of a spare bumper DJ had a while back in anticipation of mine failing. Looks like the tabs it's supposed to be glued to are still in place on my bumper, so its just a matter of exopy'ing this one on, but I need a dremel to clean out the slots on the salvaged clip, and I forgot that I broke mine until I needed it.

So now my car looks like it received some shocking news until I can make a trip to Home Depot.

Your car will forever haunt me. It's so pretty.

And yet your best offer to date for it is like $20 and a slap on the ass. ;-)

I was having trouble picturing how bad of an entrance it was, why not try it with some of the $50 ramps at HF? even though they aren't rated high enough you might be able to put a small block of wood under the middle and let it bend the ramps some. It doesn't seem like you need too much height to clear it.

Besides, what's the worst that could happen, you break a ramp and send shrapnel into your undercarriage?

Re: WTB: Your Old Trailer Ramps - SlimKlim - 03-01-2016

I mean, my little plank gets the job done, so no reason to spend more money on it. :dunno: You'd struggle to get a playing card between the splitter and pavement but it doesn't actually scrape, hence the chinny-chin-chin comment.

Seeing your shadow of you taking this picture in the middle of the neighborhood reminds of how i awkward i feel taking pictures of random car shit in public and you can feel all the non-car people around you like "what the fuck is he doing?"

I saw a girl taking a picture of the ground next to a sidewalk at GTC the other day. There was nothing on the ground. She was literally just taking a really close picture of the ground.

Just FYI, my offer was very fair when the headgasket was blown. He is just butthurt that his 200k m3 with a blown headgasket wasn't worth $10k

I wouldn't sell you my car for 10k anyway, it deserves better than to get torn apart and tracked or dailyied through Arlington.
