New Car for Nate maybe? - Nate the Great - 02-06-2016 So the Blue Blaze has been plagued with a series of maintenance issues as of late as the mileage is increasing on the car. 56,000 when I started in 2012 now up to 136,000 as of Feb. 2016. Yeah I know crazy I drive all over and drive up and back from the valley to cville 2 times a week. I have been starting to replace parts such as shocks, oil gasket, sensors ect. from wear and tear but its increasing with frequency and becoming a cost issue. I think I am going to give the car one more year and by Fall if things have not improved or significantly gotten worse then I am ready to move on. I love the car its been relatively good to me up till the last few months. I had a few minor accidents 2 flats, running over a raccoon, a ditch and a box of junk all in one year (when it rains it pours!) a battery cable had a recall and I got it fixed free of charge. But these were driver/driving condition incidents and no fault of the car minus the battery cable. I have owned an e30 and an e46 before and they were great cars and lasted at least 7-10 years of decent driving and that has been my car history thus far. I am not beholden to BMW but it will be hard to move onto something else as I am most familiar with that line of cars and spent tons of time with them. However, I am willing to swallow my BMW pride and look for other options. What I am currently looking into is something of a sporty sedan, unique possibly blue or black and awd and reliablilty. This seems to be steering me towards Subaru, but I am not sure. Anything but a boring beige box on wheels. Anyone have ideas or a direction that I should be looking towards? It ticks all of your boxes:

Ironically my brother had a black one a 2004. I have heard mixed reviews on Audi some say its really reliable others say its a money pit. My current BMW is an e90. As far as prices go I am looking under $30,000. So unfortunately the sky is not the limit lol. I got my current car for 25,000. Hot damn that GTR is nice  I would love to have one and there is one at Harrisonburg Nissan a red 2009 but it is a whopping 69,500! hock: Certainly not in my budget lol.

AWD limits your options from there to more BMWs or Audis like you're looking at. Older Audi ain't ever going to tick any reliable boxes, just read our project forums here. Maybe G35X? Caddy made a CTS4 but based on my past ownership experience I would not recommend. Re: New Car for Nate maybe? - rherold9 - 02-07-2016 To be honest. Find as low mileage and late model year car. That should help on reliability. Other than that any of the cars mentioned are fun and sporty. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk Re: New Car for Nate maybe? - JPolen01 - 02-07-2016 The g35x is a good idea. Only thing to keep an eye on with those vq engines is oil consumption/burning. Otherwise they are nicely appointed and a good bit of power. They tend to eat front breaks as well. Re: New Car for Nate maybe? - D_Eclipse9916 - 02-08-2016 The Lexus IS drives really nice. That would be a great car to soak up some miles and still stay sporty and can't imagine that thing not being reliable. The repairs thus far sound pretty minor, certainly less than a new car? Re: New Car for Nate maybe? - Nate the Great - 02-10-2016 Yeah there is no rush to go out and buy yet. Just weighing out the options and looking at alternatives. I tend to keep my cars going until its no longer financially feasible to do so, and I am sentimental there is a line from Herbie the Lovebug (1968) that has stuck in my mind since I was a kid "A wise man once said, "When you come to last page, close the book." I always hear that line when I have driven cars for the last time and man it is hard to close the book! Anyways, There is something about Audi I like, I have considered Infinity and Lexus as well. |
