Visit to Arlington - Ryan T - 12-16-2015

So my wife accepted a new job with Deloitte in our local area and has to come to NOVA in early Janurary for orientation. We will be staying around the corner of Duke St. And Diagonal Road in Alexandria on 1/2-1/4. I'm not sure who is close to that area but we will be there from 1/2/15-1/5/15. Sam and I would love to get together with some MM'ers for dinner and drinks one night. Also, if someone isn't working, I will be looking for something to do during the day on 1/4 and 1/5.

Basically we are looking to see who is around that area on the evenings of 1/3, 1/4; and during the day of 1/4 and 1/5. Just let me know.

Ryan, give me a call when you are up here.

Also welcome Sam to Deloitte. I really do enjoy working there. I am surprised her Orientation is no in Rosslyn at 1919 N Lynn St vs being in alexandria.

You need to visit http://www.yelp.com/biz/killer-esp-alexandria-2 every damned morning. Best coffee in the area (because it is from Portland, duh) and MONEY savory and sweet pies.

Re: Visit to Alexandria - Jake - 12-16-2015

I'll be around, I work in the Deloitte/CEB building with DJ and Cabell (in Rosslyn, not Alexandria) and live in Alexandria. Let me/us know!

In. Great area! I used to work in the Alexandria Deloitte office!

Re: Visit to Alexandria - Senor_Taylor - 12-19-2015

MM Takes on Alexandria.

How did all of y'all manage to work at the same place?

Deloitte has 200,000 + employees and is a big 4 firm in DC. Inevitable that a small percentage of alumni would work there. Its Cabell, ryan's wife, and I. Jake works in the same building as Cabell and I but works for CEB.

I would say 60% of my friends work at either Deloitte/PWC/Booz Allen/KPMG. Welcome to Government Contracting

Re: Visit to Alexandria - davej - 12-21-2015

You guys got any like 90% remote work jobs up there? =)

KPMG was hiring almost exclusively for "Remote Only" IT Advisory gigs for awhile. I could probably hook you up with a POC if that's your thing.

Re: Visit to Alexandria - Ryan T - 12-24-2015

So when my wife read this thread she noticed I was mistaken. It is in Arlington, the 1919 N. Lynn Street address, rather than Alexandria. We are staying across the road at Le Meridien Arlington. Looking forward to getting to see everyone.

Re: Visit to Arlington - Jake - 12-25-2015

Oh nice!

There is a Heavy Seas brewery walking distance from the Lynn St office that has great beer and good (a bit pricey) food. Otherwise Rosslyn is kind of dead after 5 PM. Plenty of good spots if you want to ride the Metro a stop or two to Clarendon or Court House - look up Tupelo Honey and Bracket Room, see if either of those appeal to y'all, or Heavy Seas.

Great!

She will be provided Lunch during her training, so plan on something afterwards. I am mostly on the 11th floor when I am working in the office if you want to drop by (she will be on 15). BTW if you do come to drop by, go to the front desk in the lobby and ask for Don Fitzpatrick, not Dj.

Jess and I are up for meeting up. Georgetown is meh to me, but good "high-end" shopping if Sam is into that and is only across the street. Might be a little old for Clarendon, but we would be up for a night of drinking/dancing if you were so inclined.

Re: Visit to Arlington - V1GiLaNtE - 12-28-2015

Even better! If "Don" isn't available ask for Cabell Spicer. I sit on the 9th floor.

Lots of good options to eat up the street in Clarendon.

Re: Visit to Arlington - Ryan T - 01-03-2016

Happy Hour tomorrow somewhere in Rosslyn/Arlington/fairly close to where we are staying? I'll let DJ make the call cause I know precisely jack squat about what's around here.

Also, anyone not working tomorrow feel like getting into anything during the day?

Re: Visit to Arlington - D_Eclipse9916 - 01-04-2016

In an effort to stay close and avoid the metro, our best bet is either Heavy Seas or Continental (never been there).

If we don't mind a small drive, clarendon is much better on choices. Who is in tonight?

Re: Visit to Arlington - Jake - 01-04-2016

In for either Rosslyn option or Clarendon.

Re: Visit to Arlington - D_Eclipse9916 - 01-04-2016

Alright, it's cold, its miserable, and no one wants to ride the metro in this crap.

Continental in Rosslyn sounds good. Ryan, when are you available. Cabell you in? RJ can you make the pilgrimage from Reston?
