It has also been confirmed that BRR-SCCA is hosting an autocross for us in Verona the day after.

Howdy everyone.

We're leaning towards April 16th or April 9th as the day for the show.

When do the SCCA and NASA schedules come out?

Usually NASA's first event isn't until mid-April

We've been doing March events since I started in 2008.

The NASA schedule should be out in the next month or so. I'll pester a few people and see how close it is to being ready.

I'm just happy to see a planning thread in October! Keep this trend of planning ahead going!

Have you reached out to Chris Cobetto with NASA or Ray Schumin with SCCA?

I really do appreciate you guys being so on top of the ball this year.

It was really awesome last year to have the autox paired the next day, I hope we can do that again. It really helped me pull a couple people down last year.

Re: Spring car show 2016 PLANNING thread - Senor_Taylor - 11-18-2015

Once this week is over, us officers have a little free time, so we'll start making some calls and emails. Unfortunately, we've all been swamped recently.

+1 to DJ's comment about pairing the autocross with the car show. Really made for a fun weekend.

Re: Spring car show 2016 PLANNING thread - shenvalleyrx - 12-12-2015

two ideas specifically for the car show itself:

1) have people register their cars by class.
2) have designated areas where all classes are parked together.

Good idea in thought. But I feel like it would be really hard to do this in practice. I know some people who will just hear about it the car show a day before or something and they don't register but show up an want to be in it. How does one prepare for that? Tell them no, leave extra spaces (but how many?), etc...

Definitely I cool idea but it also requires a registration system. Unless we have someone handling a hundred emails and organizing it all.

Idk I like the idea but definitely just need to talk about it between everyone. The car show last year was one of those things where we had these ideas as officers but didn't know exactly how to play them out.

You're over-thinking the definition of "register".

No one pre-registered last year. You paid your entry fee when you arrived and got a number. And then just parked wherever there was a free space. You even had guys come in, pay the entry and then leave before the judging was even done.

for point #1: Someone shows up and pays you the entry fee, you give him a number and class designation. Then you direct him where to go park with his class (more details in point #2). Is he in a Jeep? 4x4 class. 1970 Mustang? Classic class. Subaru WRX? import class.

for point #2: Have the parking lot divided up into rows for each class. cones + signs. Have someone directing people to the proper row and spot. Seriously, If a bunch of middle-aged men at my church can wave people into open parking spaces every Sunday morning, I'm pretty sure one or two MM members could be directing people to parking spaces for the show.

How hard is that?

Re: Spring car show 2016 PLANNING thread - Senor_Taylor - 12-12-2015

That's a good idea. We'll definitely give it some thought. Everything sounds great on paper, but when it comes to application, some things that aren't as important, like this, may get swept under the rug. We'll definitely have it on our radar.

Also, the dates are now either April 2nd or March 26th.

Re: Spring car show 2016 PLANNING thread - jbails39 - 12-12-2015

Have any talks been held with JMU yet? Also, gotta think of ways to keep people around, show died down way too early last year.

This is the one idea so far that has not been about the date of the event, and the simple fact that the two of you to respond so far have both had a defeatist attitude about such a simple idea is just pathetic.

At this point in planning, with the event 4 months out "swept under the rug" is just an excuse for "to lazy to plan".

You all seem to just be going around about what date works best. Is the date important? Absolutely. Okay, you've got your date narrowed down to April 2 or March 26. Now it's time to start working on the What and How questions. These are the next phases of planning.

if you're going to judge you need a judging system. if you're going to judge on class, you need a class system.

Is judging an important part of the MM show?
1) If "yes", attempts to make the judging system better shouldn't be "swept under the rug".
2) If "no", then you're just a meet up, not a car show. Do you want this event to be a meet up, or a car show?

This is pretty basic, logical thought process stuff.

If my 2 &1/2 year old nephew can sort his mega bloks into piles of the same color, YOU should be able to sort cars into 4 or 5 classes.

This isn't rocket science. don't over-complicate a simple idea.

The reason I brought this up is because last year it seemed like the class system wasn't well implemented. I get there and you all tell me to "Park wherever" and then I'm nowhere near other cars in my class once the show fills up. Then you also have a Subaru wagon voted best 4x4 - If I were a Jeep or Truck guy, I would have been majorly pissed about that - that was complete BS. As an alumni who just showed up to the event without having any part in the planning, to me the experience just seemed like really poor planning.

But, hey Taylor, you know, you're right. it's not that important. dumb idea. sorry I brought it up. just go ahead and sweep it under the rug and forget I mentioned it. God forbid you make it a better event than last year. Just let me know so I don't waste my time showing up.
