1995 Mustang SVT Cobra - 95SVTCobra - 01-29-2015 Alright, I finally decided to make a build thread, as I have a few future plans for the car . So a little background, it is a 1995 Mustang Cobra, which means it was the last year of the 5.0 motor. I bought the car completely stock with around 38k miles on it, and it currently (sitting in the garage covered) has 52k. I have done a few things to the car so far, mostly to bring down the 4x4 stock ride height and increase the volume  . So here it goes (as she sits now):-Magnaflow Maganapack Catback -BBK Off-Road X Pipe -BBK Chrome Longtube Headers -Steeda Tri-Ax Short Throw Shifter -H&R Supersport Springs w/ ISOs -KYB AGX Adjustable Shocks and Struts -J&M Caster Camber Plates -Painted Cobra Calipers -LED Dash Light Upgrade -Alpine CDE-143BT Headunit Here are some pictures as it sits now: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I have some plans for Spring Break, as I am planning on getting it and bringing it up here to JMU for the car show, along with perhaps a few more buddies with some sweet Mustangs. These plans are listed below: Future Plans Before MM Show -Buy a car bra (okay stick with me here, I hate them. I just want them for trips to and from Harrisonburg, and to Mustang Week over the summer; lol rock chips are not my friend) -Put dust boots on struts (old ones wouldn't fit, had to order some) -Remove spring ISOs for another 1/4" to 1/2" of drop -Straighten tailpipes, and get speakers wired right -Paint mirrors...? (Rio Red- opinions?) After MM Show/ Before Mustang Week -Wheels and Tires (18" Chrome Saleens w/ staggered setup- NITTO NT555 285's out back and 265's up front) -Tint 35% -Slotted Rotors -Cobra R Hood -"COBRA" Rear Bumper -Cold Air Intake with a bigger MAF Sensor -Throttle Body Down The Road -Rear gears (3.55 or 3.73- debating on) -Dyno Chip Tune (OBDI needs a chip) -Boost? Cam? Heads? Ported Stock upper and lower? :dunno: Painting Brakes- Before- ![]() Before- ![]() After- ![]() After- ![]() Lowering in Garage - ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Longtubes- ![]() Stock vs. Longtubes (sorry about the blurry pic)- ![]() ![]() BTW, yes it does roar now lol 3D Image of what painted mirrors, Cobra R hood, and 5 spokes would look like- ![]() ![]() I love this car, especially feel close to it because my dad has a 1995 Cobra Convertible that he bought brand new in 1994, with 4 original miles on it (his is 1 of 499). It now has 22k on it, and actually won a car show just a couple months ago. He has taught me all I know about taking care of the car, and maintaining it. Here is a pic: ![]() Finally, I'll leave this intro with a little photoshoot with my friends (who, if you can't tell, like mustangs too :thumbup ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
Re: 1995 Mustang SVT Cobra - *insertusernamehere* - 01-29-2015 Nice Chip! Suuuper clean. My mustang appreciation just increased by x1000 If i have time to make it home back to rva i'd help you work on it whenever! Re: 1995 Mustang SVT Cobra - CaptainHenreh - 01-29-2015
Re: 1995 Mustang SVT Cobra - Jake - 01-29-2015 Dig it. I like those renderings you posted with the hood/rimzz/painted mirrors, except the ride height in the rendering looks dumb. But I think you said you'd only drop it by 0.5" or so, to eliminate the wheel gap, which should look great. Always had a soft spot for that generation of Mustang, probably because that's what was current when I was a kid. I'm sure I goofed around in one when we bought my dad's Taurus in 1994. Looking forward to seeing it at the show! Re: 1995 Mustang SVT Cobra - Senor_Taylor - 01-29-2015 About time, Chip! Have any pictures of it stock? Re: 1995 Mustang SVT Cobra - ScottyB - 01-29-2015 have a soft spot for 95's...my father in law sold his GT vert a year ago that he had since like 98 or so. over the course of knowing my wife for 15 years we drove it around a bunch of times and it was always great on the blue ridge parkway. with some braces, brakes, and a 5 speed it would have been genuinely good fun. i'll say one thing...they are built like f'ing tanks. in high school my wife was rear ended in it at like 20mph by an eclipse and it utterly destroyed the mitsu but all the stang needed was a bumper cover. my sister in law rear ended someone with it...barely a scratch. then a few years ago it was parked at the bottom of a hill in a snow storm and an F150 spun into it, crushing it on 3 sides (don't know how that's possible but it did) but it was repaired and soldiered on. I still remember being a kid in '97 & '98 and seeing these rolling around sounding awesome. I used to cut pics of them out of magazines and had a SN95 Cobra r/c car. Oh lawd... ![]() Keep it up  . I will be fully satisfied when it has a loud Vortech underhood. Re: 1995 Mustang SVT Cobra - Jake - 01-29-2015 Ugh. I always loved the "Mystic Cobra" paint job that some of 'em got. That teal color is SO 90s, too. Re: 1995 Mustang SVT Cobra - Mike - 01-29-2015 i liiiiike! 1995 Mustang SVT Cobra - ViPER1313 - 01-29-2015 Modding this car makes me sad
Re: 1995 Mustang SVT Cobra - 95SVTCobra - 01-29-2015 Jake Wrote:Dig it. Thanks Jake! Lol I created the rendering, but just kinda wanted to see what it would look like if it was bagged. I don't exactly love it either. Wanted to put it up because it showed the painted mirrors, tint, and hood. Can't wait to bring it back up for the show! And my buddy from instagram said he was free that weekend and has a Cobra that looks very similar, with more mods. He said he would make it up if his work schedule didn't change. *insertusernamehere* Wrote:Nice Chip! Suuuper clean. My mustang appreciation just increased by x1000 Thanks man! Sure will hit ya up. Senor_Taylor Wrote:About time, Chip! Have any pictures of it stock? I'm getting my dad to send me a couple tonight, just for you . It hasn't changed much appearance wise, just lower and red brakes hahaScottyB Wrote:have a soft spot for 95's...my father in law sold his GT vert a year ago that he had since like 98 or so. over the course of knowing my wife for 15 years we drove it around a bunch of times and it was always great on the blue ridge parkway. with some braces, brakes, and a 5 speed it would have been genuinely good fun. I noticed that immediately after lowering it with the adjustable shocks and struts that it handed 10x better than before on a backroad. Probably still need to address lower control arms, rear gears, and sway bars, but hey, gotta have something to do this summer right? Goodspeed Wrote:Jake Wrote:Always had a soft spot for that generation of Mustang, probably because that's what was current when I was a kid. ^ You buying? LOL jk but I without a doubt agree. I'm hoping that I can get these small mods done and then save up each year for a vortech and put it on senior year. And the mystic cobras . I was actually looking at a couple before I found this one. Mike Wrote:i liiiiike! Thanks man! ViPER1313 Wrote:Modding this car makes me sad I feel you. My dad has his completely stock, and it looks good, and is a classic. I just figured being an enthusiast and after 20 years I could change a couple things to make it my ideal car. I still have all the stock parts though... Re: 1995 Mustang SVT Cobra - fiveoh2go - 01-29-2015 Needs more Vortech! Seriously though, you've got a really clean SN95! Also, speaking from personal experience, since you've already addressed the suspension get some solid aluminum steering rack bushings from Maximum Motorsports...those things completely transform the steering feel of any Fox/SN95/New Edge car. Totally worth the $40 and they're suuuper easy to install. Re: 1995 Mustang SVT Cobra - 95SVTCobra - 01-29-2015 fiveoh2go Wrote:Needs more Vortech! Seriously though, you've got a really clean SN95! Ah, I was waiting for the foxbody owner for advice! Good to see you found it. You had a termi right? (brb currently drooling). I test drove one over thanksgiving break and good lord. Boost FTW. And pushrod 5.0 FTW. Anyway, does that rack bushing replace the rubber that connects the steering shaft to the rack? Did you do it to your foxbody? I really want to see that foxbody too...
Re: 1995 Mustang SVT Cobra - fiveoh2go - 01-29-2015 I did have a Terminator, a DSG coupe. It was fun, but I got bored with it after a few years so I returned to my roots with a Fox. The rack bushings from MM replace the spongy, factory rubber bushings that are used to affix the steering rack (in conjunction with a couple of bolts) to the K-member of the car. I don't have them on my '93...but I did install them on my '03. After throwing the Maximum Motorsports catalog at my '03 I can honestly say that those rack bushings from MM were by far the best bang for my buck that I spent on that car's suspension/steering system. They almost completely eliminate the numb feeling in the steering caused by the over-boosted power assist. Here's a link ---> http://www.maximummotorsports.com/Steering-Rack-Bushings-Solid-1985-04-Mustang-with-stock-k-member-P466.aspx Re: 1995 Mustang SVT Cobra - 95SVTCobra - 01-29-2015 fiveoh2go Wrote:The rack bushings from MM replace the spongy, factory rubber bushings that are used to affix the steering rack (in conjunction with a couple of bolts) to the K-member of the car. It seems to be a very good bang for buck mod. The steering has a bit of a dead zone, hopefully that is just slop from the rubber/urethane bushings. Seems like you would have it on the 1993, as your car and my car share the exact same frame (I believe). I finally drove my buddies foxbody (even though it was a 4 cylinder) and I could feel how much lighter it was than my SN95. Thanks for showing me those, anything else you recommend? Re: 1995 Mustang SVT Cobra - 95SVTCobra - 01-29-2015 Well that didn't take much convincing. Bought the steering rack bushings! lol, will install over spring break. I think my parents are becoming mad at me for the amount of car parts stacking up in my room, even when I'm at school... Re: 1995 Mustang SVT Cobra - fiveoh2go - 01-29-2015 95SVTCobra Wrote:Thanks for showing me those, anything else you recommend? The pushrod Cobras have a much better breathing top end (GT-40 heads and intake) in comparison to the standard 5.0 found in SN95 GTs, and LX/GT fox bodies. The problem is the mass air flow meter is undersized on the Cobra, creating a bottleneck, even though physically the housing of the meter is larger than one used on a standard 5.0. The column in the middle of the Cobra-only meter greatly reduces its flow. Here's a side-by-side pic of a standard 5.0HO meter on the left and a Cobra meter on the right. ![]() So because of the column in the middle of the 70mm Cobra meter it flows only marginally better than the MAF used on a standard car. The cure is a Pro-M mass air meter. ![]() It has no column to impede flow, comes in various sizes starting with 73mm, uses modified Ford electronics for the best durability and driveability (STAY AWAY from C&L mass air meters), and literally installs in mins. If you do buy a Pro-M meter make sure it is specifically for a 1995 Cobra as the meter must be "matched" to the car it will be used in (the Cobra has a different processor and fuel injectors compared to a GT). Since you've already opened up the exhaust side of your engine, adding a MAF meter that can actually feed the engine an adequate amount of air will most def improve performance and allow it to breathe. Sorry for the wall of text.

See I was seriously about to buy a C&L Cold air with the bigger MAF, as I am not a fan of the flashy BBK Cold Air intake. Seems like perhaps a K&N with the stock air box and a bigger MAF might just be the cure. I have removed the air silencer that they say can gain "a couple horsepower". Would a K&N hi-flow filter with a bigger MAF do essentially what a cold air would do? I like the idea of a cold air intake, and the C&L looks waaay better than the stock air box, but now I'm hesitant, but if the issue only really is the MAF, couldn't I just swap them out? Heck the BBK one is $180 without a MAF and the C&L is $210 with a new MAF. I'm debating on whether or not to buy the C&L, try to sell the MAF somewhere and buy the Pro-M MAF. I know looks don't matter that much, but I might enter the car in some shows, and would like to have something other than the stock air box in the car. :dunno: What have you heard about the C&L MAFs that make them so iffy? Re: 1995 Mustang SVT Cobra - 95SVTCobra - 01-30-2015 Okay, so good ol' Dad emailed me a couple photos of the car stock. Colton and Taylor, I wasn't lying when I said I could probably have gone wheeling with you at the stock ride height  ![]() LOOK AT THAT 4X4 STANCE ![]() ![]() Goodness^^^^^^^^
