How does everyone do coolant flushes? - Sully - 09-09-2014 What the best way to drain and refill coolant. I really don't want to drain/fill/run engine for whatever time period/repeat 1000 times to clean it all out like I did with the M3. I've also read that the block plugs of the f150 like to strip pretty easy (not sure the validity of this statement but i don't really want to find out either) so i would like to avoid that if possible I have a couple cars to do so I'd like the easiest, quickest, cleanest way possible. Re: How does everyone do coolant flushes? - BLINGMW - 09-10-2014 I'll just be the first to admit that I've never "flushed" coolant. Drain radiator, refill. Use distilled water. Disconnect lower coolant hose if that helps. That might only be ~half (2/3rds?) of it, but unless it was heavily contaminated, I figure it meets the spirit of the service. Pulling plugs out of any old block is an often difficult and risky procedure. Drain and refill twice if it's nasty. :dunno: Re: How does everyone do coolant flushes? - *insertusernamehere* - 09-10-2014 Wow, you flushed your e36? Yeah I looked up how to do that and I NOPED out of that in a heartbeat. Re: How does everyone do coolant flushes? - Jake - 09-10-2014 I drained the block on my ex's E46 when we did the complete cooling system refresh. I didn't drain the block on my M3 when I did the same refresh. It didn't seem to make a lick of difference... just drain the expansion tank and the radiator, and refill. Frankly, given how much coolant the M3 sucked down after draining it that way, most of it did come out. I don't know if the e36 has two but apparently the Ford has one per side and I'm definitely not messing with them |
