National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park - Steve85 - 08-27-2014

Grand opening tomorrow for the new track in Bowling Green, KY. Pretty cool to see this come to life, having the assembly plant, museum and track all in one place. The video is old and not so great, mostly footage from VIR (where NCM hosted their event for years) but has Doug Fehan talking about Corvette Racing's input into the design to have corners and straights mimic some of what they see at LeMans.

Looks like the first real HPDE is Sept 26 (pretty steep at $525, no racing though so maybe a lot of track time??) and some karting and motorcycle stuff scheduled for mid-october.

Grand Full Course, 3.15 miles:

Corvette Race Loop (or perhaps the "Spec Miata Drag Race Loop")

Looks pretty damned sweet. Would be awesome to go pick up a new Vette at the factory and go sling a Vette (not your new unbroken in Vette) around the track before heading home. Too bad it's 11 hours from me but if they put on some cool Corvette driving experience events out there might have to make the trip.

i like that they use a lot of long radius, non-constant corners...looks like a really natural course and not too clinical or boring.

i see a mulsanne chicane and something like a mini eau rouge in front of the grandstands?

Looks like fun!

It is a bit far - I used to go down for the forum gathering but it just got to be a bit much. This will most likely get me back down there though.

G - it's a small block chevy - treat it like a child and let it know right off the bat what to expect from life. Smile Although those corners on the right of the map in grand full will be LS3 killers.

Scott - yeah, front straight and turn 1 pretty much lifted right from the latest LeMans layout.

I haven't seen anything good on elevation changes...

And the turns right above the chicane (8-9 maybe) look a lot like Oak Tree.

FYI
Quote:Guys and Gals,
There is still room for students to come check out the newest race track in North America. Bluegrass Bimmers will be hosting a Driver school there October 3rd, 4th and 5th. The 4th and 5th are for students with little, no, or a ton of experience. If you have only done one or two different tracks this is your chance. Please check out www.bluegrassbimmers.org for sign up information, and check motorsportreg.com too.

I hope to see you guys there, cooler weather, cool cars and great people.

Damn no real time to get over this season. Might have to try next season instructing and making the trip out there. Luckily I have an LS1 on street tires so I should be fine with oiling
