Rallycross at the VIR Rally School Course - Sept 7 - ScottyB - 06-04-2014 this is your chance to experience rallyx on the best course you're probably ever going to see. its put on by the Tarheel Sports Car Club for the first time, and the preliminary course they're trying out is 3 minutes long, which is basically an eternity as far as autocross-like events go. terrain looks like cut grass, hardpack, and some bumpy loose dirt. i don't think there are any harsh rocks to worry about, since its a training site for the gov't and they probably don't want to destroy their equipment on a regular basis. see the test drive of the course here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcNYReZFuyU they're using a partial section of this: ![]() expect at least 6 runs (3 morning, 3 afternoon) and possibly up to 8 with fun runs. entry fee TBD but probably ~ $35. you'll want about 4-5 inches of ground clearance minimum and all seasons or at least tires with more than a 35 series sidewall. let me know if you're seriously interested. i will update this thread with instructions to sign up. Re: Rallycross at the VIR Rally School Course - Sept 7 - Senor_Taylor - 06-05-2014 I wonder what it'd be like to run a truck on this... Re: Rallycross at the VIR Rally School Course - Sept 7 - Senor_Taylor - 06-05-2014 You're selling your M3 for $500?
Re: Rallycross at the VIR Rally School Course - Sept 7 - SlimKlim - 06-05-2014  Good one. I'm into that shitbox for a smidge more than $500 though Re: Rallycross at the VIR Rally School Course - Sept 7 - ScottyB - 06-05-2014 Jake Wrote:Hey Scotty... opportunity to co-drive the Scoob? yep, if i can get to this one. that weekend is a mess for me and i'm trying to work out a time. but i wanted to let you guys know since its far closer than a normal event for that club. Re: Rallycross at the VIR Rally School Course - Sept 7 - D_Eclipse9916 - 06-05-2014 Damn, bad weekend for me. That should be super fun. Re: Rallycross at the VIR Rally School Course - Sept 7 - Dave - 06-10-2014 I told myself I'd try to do some form of rally event this year, and this sounds like a damn good event to pop my cherry. Now to figure out a car... Wonder if I can find some piece of shit on Craigslist and then sell it again after the event... Re: Rallycross at the VIR Rally School Course - Sept 7 - ScottyB - 06-10-2014 Dave, if you're serious about going i'd be happy to get in touch with one of the guys that brings the beater sentra you may have seen pictures of, to ask about you doing a co-drive. they usually pass that car between 2-4 racers every event. they'd probably be happy to offer a seat to you if you get in touch early on, and they're always excited to get new faces at an event. Oh yeah I meant to post here, i'd be in depending on how many other people are in. This. Seriously. On my drive home I was thinking out a plan on a target car/budget/logistics/etc for buying one to trash at this event, but couldn't iron enough out to pitch it to the wife. Frankly arrive and drive sounds like a way better option for this event, so please work your magic. Do they have any form of instruction or help for n00bs at these events? I don't really care about being competitive and just want to have fun, but seat time should still be educational... I think 5 people would be a good number. Cheap enough per person, but few enough drivers that it *might* survive the whole day. Jake has expressed interest, so that's three of us, I'm sure we could find 2 more people to throw in $100 or so. We could do something like that Subaru, borrow a battery from another car, and just plan to junk it after the event. Re: Rallycross at the VIR Rally School Course - Sept 7 - JPolen01 - 06-11-2014 If you buy a $500 car and the scrap it at the end, you can possibly make back a good chunk of change. Crazy Ray's junk yards in MD buy any running car for $300. If you can find a place like that in VA you can have a really cheap day. Re: Rallycross at the VIR Rally School Course - Sept 7 - Senor_Taylor - 06-11-2014 Ask Jack Martin. He scraps cars. |
