Project: Beat Old F150 aka "BIG SIX" - Kaan - 03-31-2014 ![]() 1995 F-150 XL, 4.9L Inline 6, 3 Pedal 5 Speed, Long Bed (I think) After searching the internet like a 21st century kid, the good old Valley Trader came through. She’s a multicolored, almost rust free (I’ll get into that later), 2 owner truck… she’ll be getting me to the vanpool while the integra is on jack stands, hauling firewood, all the home project supplies I could ever want, and all the various BS that trucks are supposed to do. The last owner lived in the same town that Sylvia and I do, but his son was borrowing it to move so I had to go out to bumblefuck VA to look at it… seriously it made our house feel like we were in the city. A/C is cold, heat is hot, clutch kicks like a mule, 4 low and high all work… hell both gas tanks work and the rear one doesn’t leak (yet). She has 200k miles of love and a fresh tune up… the engine is dead quiet when its running. Not one tick or knock. Its crank windows, manual mirrors… but it does have an airbag! I feel so safe. The bed isn’t in the best shape but its only got surface rust and if it didn’t rain/snow yesterday it would have been taken care of. A the drivers side front fender has as rust HOLE and the front spring perches have seen better days… its $90 for a NEW front fender and I called one of the local offroad shops and they said they could cut out the old perches and put in new ones for about $400. As some of you know, I rarely pay asking price for anything. He wanted $4k for it, he didn’t get that much money… I didn’t bring $4k with me and I still had cash in my pocket to insure it for a year, fill up both gas tanks (they were both on empty lol), buy a new radio and speakers, buy a new matching spare 10 hole, have lunch with Rex and Julie, and buy that new front fender. I’m a jerk and he needed some money. Step UNO: There is 200k miles of old man funk on the inside of this poor truck. So step one is cleaning everything out of this old girl and getting it to the place where I don’t need hand sanitizer just to sit in it. That seems easy enough… I just need a day where its not raining all over the damn place (no its too big to actually fit in the garage lol). Step 2 will be the much needed upgrade to the sound system. Nothing fancy, but the speakers are from the 90s and the head unit is factory fresh (with cassette player… and buttons warn OFF). I do want hands free/Bluetooth to help with goofing off while driving a 3 pedal full size truck. And I need to do something (read: replace) those tiny little fog lights that don’t do anything. Step 3 will be to make the whole truck one damn color. I’ve decided to Monstaline the whole truck from the roof on down. I’m debating on if I should remove the bed and really do it right… at least one of the bed bolts is broken so I’ll need to fix that anyway… and I might as well build in the tie downs while I’m at it (i would like to get some flush fit tie down rings under each of the bed bolts anyway… ehhh its going to be a solid weekend project (maybe two). I'm thinking a red/black combo like on some of the XLTs. At some point in its life someone screwed a bed liner or cap down on the bed… I’ll be welding up all those holes before it gets bed lined. I also need to dolly out some of the spots where they stretched the metal when they ripped up whatever was screwed down lol. I’ll probably do a front and rear diff service while this whole project is going on. Step 4: I’ll probably just clean the engine bay and wait to see any real leaks. I think at some point a rear main seal was bad, but I don’t see any fresh stuff…. After reading the internet there is ZERO point in intake/header/exhaust/chips etc with a 4.9L… what you get is what you get… all they get you is sound. Its going to need a leveling kit and 31-ish tires on it… the factory came with either metric 29s or metric 31s… and at this point I’m not sure which this truck actually should have. But its got 3 matching tires and a used one (cheap ass rednecks)…. I’ll probably also do fresh shocks before I put on any expensive rubber! Re: Project: Beat Old F150 aka "BIG SIX" - Senor_Taylor - 03-31-2014 Oh boy. Another truck thread. It's my lucky day. Sent from my SCH-R530U using Tapatalk Re: Project: Beat Old F150 aka "BIG SIX" - PDenbigh - 03-31-2014 Nicely done Kaan! That's going to be a great truck. Love your plans for it. Re: Project: Beat Old F150 aka "BIG SIX" - Jake - 03-31-2014  This looks like fun. Re: Project: Beat Old F150 aka "BIG SIX" - Kaan - 03-31-2014 maybe this belongs in the insurance thread but... $200/year for comprehensive. She asked me if i wanted to hear a liability only quote and i said "why bother?" Re: Project: Beat Old F150 aka "BIG SIX" - JPolen01 - 03-31-2014 When you said beater you weren't kidding. Looks like you've got some solid plans to make it do what ya need to do though. Re: Project: Beat Old F150 aka "BIG SIX" - ScottyB - 03-31-2014 buddy of mine in HS had one just like that, but shortbed. committed unspeakable acts of abuse to it, truck never gave a crap. looking forward to seeing it come back from a redneck grave Re: Project: Beat Old F150 aka "BIG SIX" - Goodspeed - 03-31-2014 Awesome truck, looking forward to the build. Jake did the "Big Six(y)" thing, I think the truck needs a name more fitting of its redneck abuse past. "Rusty Pabst" or something. Re: Project: Beat Old F150 aka "BIG SIX" - V1GiLaNtE - 03-31-2014 Kaan Wrote:Its going to need a leveling kit and 31-ish tires on it Got to JY. Acquire F250 springs. Should bring you right up to level. 31's will fit just expect rubbing at full lock with factory wheels. Brings me back to my high school days and the shenanigans we pulled off in my F150. This sucker got cloth or vinyl? Oh.. and HELL YESS to the "smoking windows". Wait till it's summer time. Open those baby's on a hot day when you're wearing shorts and they shoot cool air where it's needed most. Re: Project: Beat Old F150 aka "BIG SIX" - .RJ - 03-31-2014 Dude wanted $4k for that? He mad. Nice beater truck I approve  Re: Project: Beat Old F150 aka "BIG SIX" - Mike - 03-31-2014 Want. Also, like RJ... $4k? LOL. I could maybe see 2500. Re: Project: Beat Old F150 aka "BIG SIX" - Kaan - 03-31-2014 this "combo" is pretty desired... long bed + I6 + 4wd + 5 speed = pretty hard to kill and will just do work all day. I probably could replace the panel then pay for the top of the line maaco paint job and at least double my money. i watched several non faded paint but still rusted out rear fender trucks go for $6-8k on ebay. Its tempting but Sylvia would kill because we looked so long for it. Re: Project: Beat Old F150 aka "BIG SIX" - Senor_Taylor - 03-31-2014 Yeah, definitely rare, but not worth $4000
Re: Project: Beat Old F150 aka "BIG SIX" - navin - 03-31-2014 Good truck to practice painting on..!! Cheapo HF gun + paint from tcpglobal = LETS DO IT. Re: Project: Beat Old F150 aka "BIG SIX" - Kaan - 03-31-2014 Sylvia would never let me buy a cheap paint gun... she also would never let me shoot crap out of a good paint gun... and she sure as hell would tell me how wasteful it is to do it outside... i'm "monstaliner-ing" the damn thing. that way i can just hose it off the truck whenever i feel like it. "Bloodbath" color... its one of the colors swatches i ordered to see what i like. ![]() I was thinking of doing a two tone like this in red/black ![]() or maybe...
Re: Project: Beat Old F150 aka "BIG SIX" - V1GiLaNtE - 03-31-2014 Kaan Wrote:or maybe... THIS. And you better have the porno red interior to back it up. Re: Project: Beat Old F150 aka "BIG SIX" - Jake - 03-31-2014 +1 to the red & white. Re: Project: Beat Old F150 aka "BIG SIX" - Kaan - 03-31-2014 No red interior to go with the red/white. I'm thinking about red and black as the color combo Re: Project: Beat Old F150 aka "BIG SIX" - HAULN-SS - 03-31-2014 red and gray is the traditional for truck colors, no? Re: Project: Beat Old F150 aka "BIG SIX" - .RJ - 03-31-2014 2-tone and yosemite sam mudflaps for maximum redneck
