Turbo-ZX14 Rider Wrecks @ 140+mph, Survives. - Goodspeed - 10-24-2013

Stupid stupid stupid, but a pretty amazing story nonetheless. This is probably as good a place as any to start:

Cliffs - wrecked @ 140+ outside of Odessa, TX, into a barbed-wire fence and field. Wasn't found until 12 hrs (overnight) after the accident. Speculation is that the speedo locked at the speed at which it separated from the bike during the breakup, meaning he was quite possibly going well above that. He has no memory of the accident or for 5 days afterwards. The bike was making 340whp.

Obviously hard to type in his condition:

Quote:Iwrecked right at the slight curve, and i wasn't found for 12 hours i stayed out there all night, i hap a collapsed lung too, I DID Have some brain damage which caused me to lose my vision, i cant see properly out of both eyes one eye no problem, my left elbow exploded im going in for surgery thursday to see if they can save it , dr didnt seem to positive about it though. i had a bunch of barbwire cuts on my left side where it sawed threw my clothes, my right side is swollen like no other. and my teeth are cracked..

And his latest words on the subject:

Quote:I'm giving up bikes. The fact no one found me all night 12 ,hours, and I had a collapsed lung the entire time trips me out I didn't die.not to mention internal bleeding. How close I came to death. I don't know but it was too close. I have one small child and another due in two months. They need a dad.

If you care to see his exploits, search any combination of "JonVon" and turbo, bike, Hayabusa, etc. I have seen a few of his videos over the years and always thought it was only a matter of time before he killed himself. He's apparently a big figure in the "underground" street racing for $$$ world.

cool(?) pictures and story and all, and he may well have been going over 140, but I'd have to say the stuck speedo doesn't mean much. When he hit something and that seperated from the bike, he could have just as well been airborne and on the throttle and *only* going 90.

Re: Turbo-ZX14 Rider Wrecks @ 140+mph, Survives. - Goodspeed - 10-24-2013

^that is true - he wrote that he couldn't remember his actions leading up to the accident but said he had played it "safe" on that stretch of road before. He admitted that he was riding that evening in the first place to test (read: triple the speed limit) the bike after a dyno tune, but b/c of his memory loss, can't remember if he was going 90 or 140+.

Its just the gnarliest bike accident I've heard of a human surviving, which is why I posted it. Amazing what the human body can endure.

yes looks like the bike hit a lot of things and very hard.

realizes after the fact that his kids need a dad? awesome planning you assclown. i don't know how you go through a barbed wire fence and not turn into beef jerky, but the fact that he survived is hopefully not lost on his kids who, with luck, will grow up smarter than him.

i get that guys want to "not give up the life" and get out and have some fun, but man...a little perspective, you know?

Yeah I'm dumbfounded that this guy needed to crash through barbwire at over 100 mph and lay unconscious in the weeds for 12 hours to realize that maybe riding like an idiot will result in his kids not having a dad. This guy missed out on getting a Darwin award he so richly deserved.

dumbass. good for the kids not losing their dad.
