Suzuki DR200 idles really high... sometimes. - BLINGMW - 08-30-2013

What am I looking for? Idle was great on this little bike, but then it just started creeping up. I turned it back down with the idle screw (which just changes the min open position), and now it idles normally sometimes and hangs really high other times. There's no tach but I would guess 3-4k.
And it's not the cable hanging up, I can feel and see the slack in it and the plate is on the adjustment stop when closed.
Likely a vacuum / intake leak, or is this a clogged pilot jet? I would think a jet problem would make it hard to start, which it's not.

Air leak or something else to cause it to run really rich

My two stroke jet ski was doing this the other day when I was running it in the driveway. No idea why but I'm sure the carbs are nasty on it. I have always run her on the slightly rich side for oil and I've never cleaned the carbs nor does it really get ran anymore. Maybe clean your carb?

Well, you win. After looking for air leaks, I figured that was all that was left. My best guess? I think the pilot must have been clogged, and I was controlling idle only with the throttle stop and main jet. I had to turn it WAY back down after I cleaned. Now it's back to normal.
And that pilot jet is crazy small. Doesn't even look like there is a hole! I think a bad thought could clog it. Fortunately the solution for bad thoughts is apparently brake cleaner.

Ahh well good to know. Might motivate to clean the skis carbs before I try to sell it.
