STEAM - FlaakCM - 07-17-2013

Anyone on here ever play games on Steam?

Currently I have been playing Age of Empires 2 HD.

Re: STEAM - Mike - 07-17-2013

yes.

i spent far too much time playing crusader kings 2 over the past few weeks.

Re: STEAM - GregF - 07-17-2013

I used to play Killing Floor and TF but not in a year or so. There arent too many Mac-friendly games that have caught my eye.

Re: STEAM - RawrImAMonster - 07-18-2013

Used to play a ton of Counter-strike back in the day. I haven't been too active recently. I bought Saints Row 3 and Fallout 3/New Vegas while they were on sale the other day.

Re: STEAM - HAULN-SS - 07-18-2013

wait..age of empires 2..in HD? holy shit. I will have to look that up. I used to dominate at that game

counter-strike = my college studies.

probably 5-12 hours a day for four years. i was [and still am, on the odd occasion that i load it up] unstoppable. i think i was cal-m (whatever was 1 step down from "pro shit") mainly because we preferred run-and-gun/public server smackdown as opposed to practicing and tactical BS.

Re: STEAM - BLINGMW - 07-18-2013

most of the games I play are via Steam these days.

It is pretty awesome with online play. I play a couple days a week.

Re: STEAM - BLINGMW - 07-18-2013

I would play that.
I see there's a free version? What's that? Is that based off 2 or 3? How limited is it? Guess I'll find out tonight...
Do you prefer 2 over 3?

Re: STEAM - D_Eclipse9916 - 07-18-2013

I cannot beleive Age of Empires 2 still exists. I remember playing it in elementary/middle school online using countless hours and staying up way too late. Too bad they didn't fix some issues I would have liked them to fix. (like the catapults that could destroy forests).

Post reviews, I may pick it up later this fall when I get some time to play.

Re: STEAM - JPolen01 - 07-18-2013

Do you have to run Linux or does Steam work on windows?

Re: STEAM - BLINGMW - 07-18-2013

it's 99% windows. The linux thing is new. And they have quite a few Mac games too.

Re: STEAM - JPolen01 - 07-18-2013

Well shit. I know what I'm doing on my day off. Never heard of this until now.

Re: STEAM - BLINGMW - 07-18-2013

It's DRM to the fullest extent, and they log your playing time and probabably sell it or spy on you, but I have to say, at least it's done right. And they backup your saves for some games, so I could wipe my gaming computer's drive any time and restore it all from steam without any physical media. Or I can log in on someone else's computer, download and play the games I have purchased. AND their prices are typically better, sometimes MUCH better.

Yeah I used to play a ton back in high school and early college years. I used to run a popular CS:S pub server that someone else owned because they didn't know how to. I think we just called it the CounterStrikePub. That game back when it was still really popular was so much fun.

I probably put thousands of hours into CS between 1.6 and source. The only game I've played more than that was Diablo 2. Other than that, no other games have been close. Those are by far my two favorites.

MUCH MUCH better. I bought Fallout 3 and New Vegas with all of their DLC for 10 bucks for both. Those games are still 20 bucks a piece for xbox. I bought Saints Row 3 with all of its DLC for like 12 bucks and its still 40 on xbox.

Granted, their summer sale is going on now. If you all want cheap games on a PC, right now is the time to look at what steam has to offer. Check out www.reddit.com/r/gamedeals/ to keep up with the daily sales going on in the Steam Summer Sale.

Re: STEAM - SlimKlim - 07-18-2013

I've used it off and on, played Max Payne 3 and the original Tomb Raiders like crack the last couple months of my senior year to distract myself from the anxiety of waiting to hear back from job applications, but my oldish Windows laptop can't run many games very well. I have Civ 5 I play on my work mac every once in a while, but playing on a laptop just isn't that comfortable.

I wish you could install steam on a console and download games directly to it, that would be so ridiculously awesome. Alternatively, I wish I had the disposable income for a gaming rig I could hook up to my TV and use the Steam "big screen" thing to use it like a console except better.

There actually was talk of a steam console at one point. I'm not sure if that is still happening or not. I haven't heard anything about it recently.

Edit: Looks like it may be coming out soonish http://www.heroengine.com/2013/06/steam ... r-release/

Re: STEAM - Mike - 07-18-2013

I wouldn't count on it. Valve fired the whole hardware team over some petty internal nonsense. From what I read of the situation I wouldn't be surprised if the whole hardware project fails completely.

Re: STEAM - SlimKlim - 07-18-2013

Meh, that'd still have me buying something to stick next to my Xbox. I'm regretting buying another Xbox in the first place, (after my 1st gen RROD'd for like the 18th time) I should've just put on my big boy britches and cobbled together a decent gaming machine, probably wouldn't have cost that much extra, and with an couple controllers I could've hooked it up to the TV and had more or less the same gaming experience.

Oh well, at least i wont have to wait for the PC version of GTA V in 2 months.
