RC flying - HAULN-SS - 05-25-2013

I was thinking we already had a thread on RC planes or something, but I couldnt find it.

I picked up a plane today that I am anxious to learn on. It's a Parkzone Visionaire. I ended up going with the bind and fly because I got a Spectrum Dx6i transmitter.

I figured this would give me a couple extra channels to play around with than the typical 4 channels that come with the RTF kits. I can see later on after i trash my first plane or two (ineveitable i am sure) buying more bind kits and i think that some of them can be had cheaper.

This plane isnt exactly the most beginner plane I could have gotten, but it has some features like active stabilization and such that I was interested in and I think will help, as well as some really slow speed maneuverability.

Sooo...anyone else into this?

Re: RC flying - BLINGMW - 05-26-2013

If I'm living where I can fly one regularly next year, I think I'll give it another shot. I had a few 2-channel mini foam crapola planes a couple years ago, an even those were really fun, especially when I got them up high enough that the wind would cary them away
Are people getting useful solar planes going yet? I want a drone to circle my property

Re: RC flying - Evan - 05-26-2013

Id never expressed any interest in RC planes, but my wife bought me a Champ RTF for christmas this year. Its pretty much the de-facto beginner plane.

First time I flew it i messed up a turn and crashed it, breaking the wing off
they are easy to fix though, and cheap to replace parts if gluing wont cut it.

havent had time to do much with it since, seems like there is a lot of time investment required to be real good and I have too many more important/fun things going on to do much more with it.
sometime this summer Ill get it back out, I have a field right behind my house to that helps.
there are a couple android simulators that help with the orientation of flying a plane flying towards you that Ive been messing around with.

I also have a blade mcx2 for flying indoors and freaking out the dogs. lots of fun

LOTS better than the cheapo $20 sima 2 channel choppers.

Re: RC flying - KPWSerpiente - 05-27-2013

I used to fly rc sailplanes/gliders. I haven't been into it for years now. I own a lot of little electric rc helos for flying in my apartment. Prices have been falling on rc copters. For 40 bucks you can get a nice electric copter fit for beginner flying around your apartment or house.

This is one I own and would recommend if anyone was looking for one.

Maybe I'll get back into outdoor flying one day when I have more time.

Re: RC flying - Jeff - 05-28-2013

I have a R/C plane starter kit I got YEARS ago. I think I got it back before I had a driver's license. Never got put together, just moved around with my from place to place in the box. Tried the battery out last year and it still charges and runs. I might try to put it together and fly it sometime soon.

Re: RC flying - HAULN-SS - 05-28-2013

Welp..first wreck is now out of the way. Broke the prop shaft yesterday. The good news is parts are cheap, I just have to wait on it to get in.

Re: RC flying - BLINGMW - 05-28-2013

d'oh! That didn't take long

Re: RC flying - HAULN-SS - 05-28-2013

Yeah, I didnt expect it would. I need to have someone take a look at my setup that knows what they are doing. I have one of the channels set to basically put the plane into noob mode which tones down the max delta on all the controls so that you can't make too wild of a manuever. You are supposed to use this mode for takeoffs as well, but when I have this channel active the elevator doesn't move enough to pitch the nose up so I wasn't able to take off in noob mode.

Re: RC flying - Evan - 05-28-2013

I was mad when I wrecked my plane and it broke. Then I read an R/C plane forum and EVERYONE breaks their plane the first flight (and then some)

Some foam safe superglue and you are back in business.
new wings, props, shafts etc are also super cheap.

Derek I found a couple hobby shops that stock parts, you should look around. beats waiting a week to get stuff in.

Re: RC flying - HAULN-SS - 05-28-2013

Yeah I haven't been there yet, but that hobby hangar place in chantilly seems to be the big one around here. I might try to swing down there today after work or sometime this week.

Re: RC flying - Evan - 05-28-2013

oh man. its literally like skirting a black hole. don't even watch, it'll be too late and you won't make it out without a car in hand.

Re: RC flying - Ryan T - 07-28-2013

Not plane related, but RC related. We currently have a shit ton of RC car stuff that we need to get rid of. We'd like to find someone willing to buy it all in bulk for a discount. I've got photos of everything. Roughly 23 cars, shoebox full of batteries, probably 30 electric motors, 7 or 8 nitro motors, a whole box full of tires, boxes and boxes of parts, plastic and aluminum frames, somewhere between 50 and 60 bodies, etc. Lots and lots of parts are still new in the box. Anyone know a shop owner or have any ideas on where to start to get rid of this stuff? The RC car market around here isn't very big.

Re: RC flying - Jeff - 07-28-2013

My uncle may be interested as well. I will let him know.

Re: RC flying - Kaan - 07-28-2013

Dont need stuff...

Rc tech.net to sell crap Smile

Re: RC flying - Ryan T - 07-29-2013

For those that may be or know someone who may be interested:

We spent all day sunday putting cars with cars, motors with motors, bodies with bodies, etc etc. This is a mixture of complete cars, rolling chassis and projects. There are at least 4 or 5 boxes of nothing but unopened parts. Plastic body parts, suspension parts, etc. The big stack of boxes setting along are nothing but bodies stacked up. Some are painted, some aren't. Cars, trucks, F1 bodies, you name it. Looking to find someone to buy everything. Below is a slideshow of all the pictures I took. No car is pictured twice, one pic of each car.
