When It Rains, it Pours - ViPER1313 - 09-20-2004 It's been one of those days. First, as I'm going to get accessory belts for my car (the old ones are worn and caused my PS to hate me at Sundays Auto-X.) Go to Advanced Auto parts, don't have the belts in stock. Damn it. Decide to go to Auto Zone, and as I pull up to the store my alternator light comes on (had also flickered 2 times during previous week). Only happening at low RPMS, when I rev the engine it goes away. Damn it. So while I'm at Auto Zone, I get them to check my alternator. Checks out OK. Got the belts I needed and left the store (one lucky find of the day, not an item that is usually stocked) Start car up again, alt light turning off and on randomly. Drive to Advanced Auto Parts to get a second opinion. Alt still checks out OK. Go home, read about subject on SHOForum, come to the conclusion that the voltage regulator in the alternator is on the fritz. Call Advanced Auto parts to order a new alternator, a $165 part + 65 core . Give my credit card number to order (don't want to drive around and kill my battery) - declined. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Check my card balance online, should have money to spare. Decide just to go to the store and handle it in person, battery light on the entire ride. Get to store, card still declined. Call up credit card company, find that an $150 order I had tried to place on RockAuto.com (a reputable parts dealer) had been charged 3 times to my card. Very pissed now :x . Went to ATM, got money from 2nd ATM card, ordered alternator. Get into car, leave parking lot, alternator light turns off. Worried that I just ordered a $165 part that I don't need, I decide to drive my car around a little bit. Coming to a stop, I hear my right rear brake making grinding / screeching noises. About to cry at this point. Pull over, look at rotor - the disc of the rotor broke off from its center spindle and is all messed up. Curse, drive home w/ engine braking. Now I need to buy a new rotor when I go to pick up the alternator tomorrow morning. Just decided I'd share my awesome day w/ everyone.:x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x - Dave - 09-20-2004 bummer d00d. tomorrow will be bettAr - Chris - 09-20-2004 that sucks, there always seems to be days like that - CaptainHenreh - 09-20-2004 Dave Wrote:bummer d00d. Y'damnright. Tomorrow is b00stday. Don't worry, it'll be good for you, too. You have a SHO, these things happen. SHO's are like bonsai trees. Don't worry, it'll get better. Unless your tranny grenades.
- navin - 09-21-2004 that basically sums up what happens whenever I turn the key to my car
- KPWSerpiente - 09-21-2004 Thanks for leaving my name out of this...now that I work at Advance Auto I got to see Adam twice today (Thayer stopped in as well) and I handled the call about the alternator. Just remember, once you've replaced these two things.....that only leaves 3249 other parts that might break. -T - Kaan - 09-21-2004 just on a happier note... somehow my car passed inspection yesterday.... falkens looking like they are getting camber/toe wear.... i'll have to replace my rear control arm bushings on both sides. and i blew crazy clean even though i was running +8 on the cam and +22 on the ignition... dont worry i'm sure to have a day like this soon... though now that i car pool to my new job... my car will see VERY few miles week to week... there is a bonus to driving 2 seaters! - .RJ - 09-21-2004 Car pooling? ^w-t-f mate? ![]() Do you have to wear a tie? Are there any shirts that fit around your neck?
