Garage Floor Tiles - GregF - 04-22-2013
Anyone have experience with flooring like this? Have an opinion or suggestion?

I painted the garage floor with concrete/garage floor paint, but after 8 months of having my car in the garage, the tires and water have started peeling the paint off the floor. So I want to get the gridded "free-flow" tiles ^^^ up there ^^^ to allow it to drain if I pull into the garage wet.

Do you use a jack and jhack stands? It messes them up. It also looks good in pictures but looks cheap/crappy in person. I got a bunch of samples, and ended up not liking it. I actually like bare concrete right now for all my messes. If I do anthing it will be ceramic/porcelain tile.

If Im using a jack/stands its out in the driveway since the garage is too small and cramped. I like the floor the way it is now, its just not lasting as long as it should. If theres another solution that doesnt involve tiles and such (maybe a sealant?), Id consider that too.

I don't know anything about it, but when my dad rebuilt his garage after the fire the floor had splotches from where it had been repaired and stained so we did that DIY sealant stuff you see in commercials during the saturday morning car shows. We did gray with white and black fleck and its held up great for the past 5 years. He doesn't wrench much, but I've jacked up cars with no issues and rebuilt motorcycle (making a catastrophic mess) and it wasn't too hard to clean up, a hell of a lot easier than the bare concrete Jake and I are slowly destroying (sorry landlord
)

Seems like the tiles are a lot easier way to go than a sealant, though I've done neither to my painted and scratched up garage floor. And FWIW, a jack and stands CAN mess them up, but I've seen them hold up really well to jacks and stands that distribute the load better, like the alum jack stands with flat bases instead of the steel triangle spike ones.

I have racedeck, well actually racedecks cheaper yet identical brother, motofloor. I had a garage project thread a while back detailing it and the install but looks like it got lost in the forum outage last year.

I love it, looks great, I dont wrench as much as I used to but its held up just fine to jacking and jackstands. I dont use shit stamped steel jackstands so I cant comment on if those mar the tiles (although Id be surprised if they did, the tiles are crazy tough) but if youre going to spend $1k on a tile floors, I dont think splurging on some of these would be a crazy thing to ask.
biggest drawback is that they arent water tight. Its easy to pull up a section of tile to clean under it but you have to keep that in mind. My dog took a piss once in the garage and that kind of sucked.
I wouldnt touch epoxy floor covering. Tons of work to do the install properly, and even after all that it can come up. and then what? youre fucked.
VCT (like in grocery stores) or ceramic tiles (like in your bathroom) are good cheap options that I would also consider, but are also labor intensive to install

There are cheaper floor tile options other than RaceDeck -- I think it's called MotoFloor. If this isn't a house you own I'd just get one of the mats or something from Costco and leave it at that.
The oil-spill mats are pretty nice too if you are doing some work that might get dirty, put that shit down and let it catch it.
