Hi guys,
First off, I would like to say I hate you all for having the track bug bite me. After the track this weekend, it was so much fun, I got to thinking about wanting to do more events. However, I am not very comfortable with wanting to use the WRX and end up in a wall. This leads me to the idea of possibly picking up a track car. I say possibly because of a couple of factors:
GF will not like the idea of another car (I already have 2)
Lack of places to park it (between us, we have 3 cars with 1 guest spot and a 2 car driveway townhouse)
Lack of places to wrench on it (only the 2 car, front to back, driveway)
Monies (I am still paying on the WRX, we have a mortgage and looking to buy another house, she may need a new car in the next year, and I'm trying to save up for a ring)
That leaves very few options for the possibility of a track car project. But i figured, why not see what is available.
I would prefer the following:
price: 1k - 2k
trans: manual
drive type: AWD or RWD
body style: couple, sedan, hatch (prefer to stay away from converts)
weight: 2500 - 3300 (depending on drive type)
power: 150hp+
front runners for me:
Subaru 2.5RS GC8 (never going to find it in that price range)
Audi A4 (ehh, but it does have AWD)
Porsche 944 (any sub model)
future plans for power per vehicle:
Subaru 2.5RS GC8 (STi motor swap)
Audi A4 (Audi 4.2 V8 to retain AWD)
Porsche 944 (LS1 swap) <--- im leaning heavy on this one
Once again, this is more for fun to see what is out there and what ideas you guys could come up with.

Edit: 944 V8 swap is a whole shitload of work. If you don't have a whole lot of money now, you won't have that much later, either. Trust me, I've researched this, it is more work and more money than it seems. "Beware the man selling the cheap Porsche, for he is naught but lies."

forget the audi. your price range puts you in B5 chassis territory, and you'll likely light the car on fire out of mechanical frustration before you ever wheel it onto a track.

Not hating on ya, just pointing out that you might be looking for a very long time with that list, or want to identify what is a must and what is flexible

The A4 i was referring to was Paul's b5 a4 winter beater for 3500

I read through the 240 posting and it is pretty tempting. I didnt see any actual pictures of the 240, was there external pics that werent included?

I have driven multiple A4s on track, if you want a car slower, less reliable, with higher consumables, and less fun to drive than an e36 325i (that can be found all day 2-3 grand), then you found what you wanted....

Here's the thing. The answer is "Probably" but I wouldn't hassle Kevin unless you had cash in hand and were motivated. When you are ready, send him an email/facebook message and tell him you are "neither Broke nor Stupid" and you'd like to come look at it.

I'll run it pass the misses first. If, and thats a huge IF, she approves, I'll think about it before reaching out to Kevin.
What happened to being in college and not needing permission to buy stuff but also not having the money to do cool things. :evileye:

Haha, it was a fun session and those newer WRXs are pretty fast out of the box. I think buying a dedicated track car is a great idea but if funds are tight and you're not ready to pull the trigger just yet, just get some good pads and a set of rotors and do a couple more events.
