Austin Dixon - austindixon - 03-19-2013 Hey guys, I'm Austin. I'm a senior here at JMU, graduating in may 2013. I drive a 2008 Honda Element EX (it's red tango pearl) and I ride a 2008 Ducati 848. Here's a couple pictures of the bike: ![]() ![]() Here's a picture of me: ![]() I'll give a little background about my driving and riding experience too. I've logged a lot of miles on both four and two wheels. I've put on most of the 60,000 miles on my element on various road trips and all of that, but I don't have a lot of experience doing any performance driving or anything like that. Go-Karting at G-Force this past weekend is probably the closest thing to track experience I have on four wheels. As for riding motorcycles, I started out with dirtbiking in fourth grade and got my first motorcycle in high school. It was a 2008 Harley Davidson Sportster 883R, and I was involved in an accident on a road trip out to Colorado on the first day and the bike was totaled. Luckily there was a used 2008 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 on the floor of the Harley dealer we were near when I crashed and we were able to continue on our trip. After about a year I got tired of the easy-cruising Harley style and sold the Harley to my grandpa and used the money to buy a 2009 Monster 1100. I think I put on about 15,000 miles on that bike in the two years I owned that bike, including two road trips up to Canada. And I got my first track experience on that motorcycle through Motorcycle Xcitement at Summit Point on the Shenandoah Circuit. Unfortunately I t-boned an old lady who pulled out of an intersection without seeing me and the bike was totaled. We used the insurance to buy the bike that I ride now, and I have been back to the track a number of times with the 848, mostly on Shenandoah but with one track day on Summit Main. So that's a brief (sort of) summary of my motorsports history. I'm looking forward to hanging out with you guys and seeing all your rides. Cheers. Austin Dixon - JPolen01 - 03-19-2013 Welcome man! 848s are awesome. I'm sure Gerald will be happy to see another Ducati join MM. Re: Austin Dixon - Jake - 03-20-2013 Was great chatting with you last weekend -- welcome to MM! Come down to VIR and get some 4-wheeled rides this weekend. Re: Austin Dixon - V1GiLaNtE - 03-20-2013 Welcome to the club Austin! Glad to see you're still riding and not discouraged after a lot of unfortunate incidents. G will be pleased with another Duc rider here! Hopefully MM will be a great asset in helping you discover the 4wheel side of things. Re: Austin Dixon - JustinG - 03-20-2013 Welcome sir. I didn't get to introduce myself at karting but glad to have you out. Re: Austin Dixon - davej - 03-20-2013 Here's what I just read. austindixon Wrote:Hey guys, I'm Austin, and I'm actually a cat. I drive a duck and have 7 lives left. Good to meet ya, bring both rides to the show in April! Re: Austin Dixon - austindixon - 03-21-2013 Thanks for all the welcomes, much appreciated. I definitely hope I can get more acquainted with four wheels, so I'm looking forward to that. Unfortunately can't make to to VIR this weekend, but I'm definitely trying to get to the track soon! And I should have my bike for the auto show, should be a good time. Re: Austin Dixon - G.Irish - 03-25-2013 V1GiLaNtE Wrote:G will be pleased with another Duc rider here! Yesss, I am pleased, mostly that there are more bike guys joining up. Nice getting to meet you and Mike at Justin's. I am so jealous that you've been riding since high school, I didn't start riding until after college. Definitely post up when you're doing your next track day(s), I wanna squeeze some track days on the Duc in this season. I wanna hit up Summit Main or VIR preferably. |
