Disco Ody. - davej - 02-09-2013

So our honda started flashing the dash display lights. Tach and speedometer are not moving while driving, and night dash lights on radio/hvac are out.
Headlights are fine, and car starts/drives fine outside of practically giving me a seizure with the flashing tach/speedo.

battery tested fine, fuses looked good, and I'm about to take the radio out to check for coins in the cd (per interwebs) but curious if anyone has other possible ideas? Or knows a good way to try finding a short?

Car has 120k, and had an aftermarket remote start when we bought it. That has worked fine for us so far though.

Tried to put a short video of the symptoms here. https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/QFXScb3VflOhJjidtF2QiANVaacCldy3SKa2Zv92d_8?feat=email

Sounds like a bad ground somewhere. I'd doubt that it's the cluster, since the radio/HVAC is out, too. Have you messed with anything lately?

Wonder if it's the aftermarket remote system. Talk to Joey about how much fun THOSE can be.

think you got it right jake. car hadn't been messed with outside of new tires and fresh oil.
broadened my search to honda related and came up with this <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.justanswer.com/honda/4jtpb-2008-honda-accord-dash-lights-starting-blinking-dim.html">http://www.justanswer.com/honda/4jtpb-2 ... g-dim.html</a><!-- m -->

long and short, disconnect the battery to reboot the computer. (not sure i buy the explanation 100%, but whatever, it worked.)
had planned on replacing with a yellow top anyway, so hopefully this battery will hold until the deal comes back.

thx!

Glad you're figuring things out, I think Smile

I had a similar "bad ground" issue with my E34 (link here). It sucked to try and figure out, particularly because it kept stranding me as a result.
