MM Chump car - ispoonwithmugen - 01-25-2013
Alright, one I'm bored as shit, secondly I was doing some thinking for Chump car. As many of you guys know I have the BMW which is too much trouble to actually "fix". Well today I went home to try and sell it and it decided to die while the guy was test driving it. I was jokingly talking about possibly using as a MM car/chump car. Is there any interest in including this as our own personal MM car? Would anybody be interested in helping "build" it? I know we have some people that have the skills to help, but would anybody actually be interested in this? I've mentioned it a few times also to Dan but I don't know if we would have enough people to drive etc. At this point I have no problem trashing the car. I figure if we part out the interior that could cover some costs. I'm sure some alumni has an extra seat they wouldn't mind lending either. Any thoughts/suggestions/bashing feel free! I'll entertain all!

Dj and Paul are actually in the midst of building an e30? chumpcar I believe. Maybe Dj can chime in with what he has going on/ideas for MM. Maybe a 2 car MM team? That would be pretty badass to have a team of cars/drivers/crew people.

I'm almost positive you still need a comp license to do chump car so..... no current members are really eligible. I could be wrong though :dunno:

Its a VW. Not sure the specs.

The motor runs fine, I'm not sure what's going on with the car at the moment. It ran out of gas and now it won't start. I had to get back to finish a project so I didn't really have time to look at it.

If I don't sell any current ones it would be 4 but in the list of past and present it would be 8. Is that a lot? Id rather have an e30 than a civic though 8-)

Please someone do a concurrent chump car build out of that car. Perfect starting point if it runs.
I guess we can give a preview of our chump car when Paul and I went to pick it up.... (not like anything on fb is a secret). As far as details about it, our first race will be August Chump Car 24 Hour VIR. Although we do plan a shakedown in May at a Trackdaze event. We did have fun with the car with the donor engine (missing headlights/windshield/bumpers/exhaust etc). Drove it around Pauls neighborhood :lol:

I am down to help build it if it makes its way to Jmu. I know nothing about chump car though. Nor do I have any funds. If it were to become an mm car we could discuss fundraising and having MM front the build. We could probably pick up some local sponsors.

Talk to some sponsors and discuss fundraising. Chump car is not cheap, and the logistics are more than just "yo lets go race". Making that first race with 4-5 participants is typically $1000-1400 for the first race per person. (goes way down from there and also depends on your build. Budget about $1200pp for an e30). This also does not include the truck/trailer you need for moving that car around. Radios/Fuel jugs/Hans/Fire Suppression/cage/seat/tires/brakes/fuel/canopies/chairs/night lights etc the list goes on... I would love to see MM attempt to do one, but we would need large fundraising and possibly some sponsors before you went down that road.
I have had an idea for MM participating in Paul and I's build but we need to agree on terms/conditions first before announcing it. Expect something by May on that.
For now, we are open to one "renter" driver for our chump car if anyone is interested. Looking at about $850 for a spot in the 24 hour VIR Chump Car team.
