2008 Suzuki GS500F - Tyler.M - 01-24-2013

Hi Everyone,

I do believe it's time to sell my motorcycle and look for something a little be different motorsports wise. I really just want to upgrade to something a little more fun that has a less likelihood of killing me.

See, one of my motorcycling icons, Kevin Ash died a few days ago from a motorcycling accident. He's been one of the original guys I've followed ever since I got into motorcycles a few years ago... he's ridden and wrote about every important bike in the last 20 years or so. My thought is, if a man like Ash can't ride a bike without killing himself, I probably won't be able to either. I've loved the experience and I've wanted to do this for awhile, but until I get the funds to either A: get the armor and protection that I think I may need to be safe or B: Get a bike with at minimum a functioning ABS system or traction control, I don't really want to ride. I know, I know, I'm just being a pansy or something, but genuinely miss having a whip with a trunk and just being able to drive without putting on a full set of armor and worrying that a small gravel patch may throw me headlong into the hood of a semi, exploding me into a bunch of shiny red chunks.

Anyways, this has nothing to do with the bike. But it does show there's nothing wrong with my motorcycle. It's completely mechanically sound. It's got a few cosmetic issues, but those are easily sorted. I spent most of my time just making sure it ran well, and it has. I'd just rather spend the funds on something a little different.

It's for sale on CL. Here's the link.

I'm asking 2500 OBO for it.

if this is how you really feel, dont even look at motorcycles with traction control and ABS. Motorcycling is for some people, not all people. You also cant ride in fear or you will get bit.

Good luck with your sale... this is a great starter bike.

Sigh, if I had that cash i would definitely jump on this. GLWS.

So far, not many hits so it might be around for a bit ha

Re: 2008 Suzuki GS500F - CaptainHenreh - 02-01-2013

Wait, the dead of winter isn't a great time to sell a motorcycle?

I actually applaud him for making a mature decision instead of continuing to ride around and endanger other people. He does not feel safe, instead of 80% of motorcycle riders that are idiots and beleive they are invincible.

Yeah just throw a cover on it and wait until the middle of March or so when it starts to warm up and list it for more than you think someone will pay. That move is called the "Chris Levey"

Don't talk about Kaan like that.

But yeah, if you don't feel comfortable riding, don't ride. One of the main reasons I decided to sell the FZR was because I didn't feel like my skills were developed enough to ride in NOVA traffic, if I had moved somewhere a little more rural I think I would've kept it and continued fixing it up, I still miss that thing. Sad

My comment was directed more at the ABS things.

Re: 2008 Suzuki GS500F - BLINGMW - 02-01-2013

I would have to say out of all the eleconic wizardry that I would typically not want on a car, let alone a bike, ABS is one of those few that is pretty sweet. :dunno: I would love to have one of those BMW 650GSs with ABS.

Anyway, GLWS. Wish I had an excuse to get a GS, yours looks like a good one.

Re: 2008 Suzuki GS500F - Tyler.M - 02-11-2013

True, dead of winter is not a great time to sell a bike. but I thought... you know with all the warm weather we've been having around here lately, I might get lucky. I'm not sure how long I'll stay away from bikes, the allure is strong. I just recognize that a majority of crashes are due to error out of the riders control and a lot of those crashes result in some serious injuries. We all have friends/ friends of friends that have been hurt on bikes.

:flamesuitmodeinitiated:

I miss my M. I'm gonna get out of bikes for awhile and go back to finding me a whip. Probably not another M, but we'll see.

I strongly encourage the use of that move. It's yielded 62% return.

He actually sold it the other day.

Re: 2008 Suzuki GS500F - Levey - 02-20-2013

Even better. This reminds me...I don't have a motorcyle. To the Craigslist!

I don't know what the hell I'm doing, so I'm buying nothing.

Re: 2008 Suzuki GS500F - Tyler.M - 02-21-2013

Yup it's been sold. Fooey on you guys saying I couldn't sell it in the dead of winter. Actually ended up making money on it to. Not much. but.... still.

The lure of another bike is strong however. I know I said I was getting out of it, but perhaps if I had a bike that felt more together and less spongy in the front end.....

or miata.

My friend is selling a '94 Civic, 5-speed. I think you should buy it.

Re: 2008 Suzuki GS500F - Tyler.M - 02-21-2013

Don't know if i could drive a 90's civic. I don't have enough hair gel

However, i'm kinda interested. Info? Links? Pics? I wouldn't mind a cheap hoonmobile

2008 Suzuki GS500F - JPolen01 - 02-21-2013

Don't buy it unless its a hatch.
