Regular Gas + Turbo = :( - Ken - 11-06-2012 Hey guys, with gas being as difficult to get as it is, it's even harder to find any premium gas. From what i gather it's okay to put in regular gas, just do my best to stay out of boost? I keep getting mixed answers on octane boosters whether or not that will help or make it worse. Any advice? Re: Regular Gas + Turbo = :( - Dave - 11-06-2012 It's not going to kill it to just run on regular - you've got computers & shit to protect the engine from grenading at the sight of a lower octane. Just temporarily tape an index card to your steering wheel saying "87 Octane = No boost" and behave yourself until you can fill it up with good stuff. Re: Regular Gas + Turbo = :( - CaptainHenreh - 11-06-2012 drive easy, keep your foot out of it....is there an SI Drive like on the subarus, where you can put it in "dear God this thing is a dog" mode? Re: Regular Gas + Turbo = :( - ScottyB - 11-06-2012 drive it gingerly. the computer will pull timing to accommodate the knock. it'll just feel down on power. Re: Regular Gas + Turbo = :( - Evan - 11-06-2012 dont waste money on octane boosters. they take octane from 87 to 87.2 Re: Regular Gas + Turbo = :( - D_Eclipse9916 - 11-06-2012 Drive regularly, in fact do your best to avoid lugging the engine. What you are attempting to do is reduce load on your motor. So less boost, and keeping the engine in its happy spot. so no full throttle at lower rpms or sustained high-rpms. Honestly, the motor will pull timing over time to adjust to the difference in fuel for the most part, but dont push it too much. Re: Regular Gas + Turbo = :( - Ken - 11-06-2012 Gotcha, thanks guys! I was having a mild freak out, exhausted all resources and just spent an hour and half to fill up with regular. Lol, love this idea. Re: Regular Gas + Turbo = :( - WRXtranceformed - 11-06-2012 I feel like Accessport used to have a low octane safety map that you could run on Subarus. Like these guys said, stay out of boost and you will be fine for a few tanks of gas. Re: Regular Gas + Turbo = :( - Ken - 11-06-2012 First thing i checked actually, if they did for subies, then they don't for mitsus. Would it make any difference to switch to a 91 map? Currently running a 93 one. Re: Regular Gas + Turbo = :( - WRXtranceformed - 11-06-2012 Yes it would. I still wouldn't push the car hard on either map. AP had a "valet" mode too that would pretty much force you to drive like a grandma. |
