Project Halloween Costume (Longstrike Mod!) - WRXtranceformed - 10-10-2012 So I don't usually get into Halloween that much, but my buddy and I were building a homemade costume last night and it kind of got my juices flowing. Since I have been gradually progressing into a conservative gun-loving, government-distrusting Southerner over the past 5 years, I though it was only appropriate to select a sniper as my costume this year  I flat out don't have the time to build a full ghillie suit, and truthfully i have always wanted one since I was in middle school running around in our woods with my friends playing paintball. They have always been super expensive for good ones, but Amazon tends to be the great equalizer and I was able to snag a really good one for a decent price. And it will be here tomorrow: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0071H ... 00_s01_i00 ![]() ![]() ![]() And what is any good sniper without his tool of the trade? I didn't want some cheezy plastic rifle from Walmart, I wanted to actually be able to fire the thing. And I have always wanted one of these, just never really had a good reason to get one. Until now: ![]() I knew there was a huge Nerf modding community, but I didn't realize how insane some people get about it. I wanted mine to be extra ridiculous, so I ordered the Orange Mod Works Massacre Kit with it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007PH ... 04_s00_i00 Install and test video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpwyTO4dqg4 Should crank up the average shots to 100+fps. Haha So I will be doing the mods to the rifle and paiting it into an awesome scheme. There are some pretty amazing ones out there and I probably won't go too crazy. But I was thinking something bold and ridiculous like black with gold accents (like a modified version of the CoD golden guns). Here are some examples, any thoughts and feedback would be great before I get started! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Re: Project Halloween Costume (Longstrike Mod!) - Jake - 10-10-2012 Might be a good idea to leave the orange tip on the end of that Nerf gun... Re: Project Halloween Costume (Longstrike Mod!) - WRXtranceformed - 10-10-2012 Yeah, I plan on blue-taping off a ring on the end to leave it orange. I don't want Johnny Law thinking I am an urban cowboy. Project Halloween Costume (Longstrike Mod!) - JPolen01 - 10-10-2012 As I wrote on Dj's status, leave it to MM to go balls deep with any hobby. Carry on as I cannot wait to see the finished product. Re: Project Halloween Costume (Longstrike Mod!) - CaptainHenreh - 10-10-2012 Def. need to add a laser pointer on it. Sounds like you've got it under control though. Nerf gun mods are definitely out there. Re: Project Halloween Costume (Longstrike Mod!) - WRXtranceformed - 10-10-2012 I'm thinking black/white tiger stripe with gold accents!
Re: Project Halloween Costume (Longstrike Mod!) - WRXtranceformed - 10-10-2012 Spending entirely too much money already on this thing hahaha.. Just scooped this because I think the stock flip up sights look ghetto
Re: Project Halloween Costume (Longstrike Mod!) - premiershine9 - 10-11-2012 So. Much. Win. Re: Project Halloween Costume (Longstrike Mod!) - WRXtranceformed - 10-12-2012 The ghillie suit is SO legit. Actually really well put together. The nerf gun is awesome but is extremely underpowered out of the box. The gun shoots a lot farther and straighter actually without the extended barrel attachment. But then it looks weird, sort of like a G36C. So my impulse buy on the mod kit I feel is definitely going to be worth it! Right now it can barely make it across my living room and down the short hallway even with the barrel removed. I may do a before and after video to show the difference. In all it took me about an hour - hour and a half because the directions were AWFUL and I screwed something up and had to take the gun back apart after I had sealed it up again. If anyone ever tries something like this, I would HIGHLY recommend taking a picture of the gun in stock form after you take it apart. It will help you a lot. What came in the mail: ![]() Pulling the bolt off and unscrewing all of the screws. Make sure you put all of the screws in their locations after you take them out because they are all different sizes. ![]() The Orange Mod Works kit: ![]() Blaster apart: ![]() Had to notch a piece of the internal plastic to make the metal trigger guard fit. Again, terrible directions that did not mention this. You can see it in the middle near the circular post. ![]() Internals finally all replaced and greased with silicone lubricant. Yes I did lose one super tiny screw, no clue where that went. Also took out the clip lock to make it easier to get them in and out: ![]() All back together: ![]() All ghillied up with the N Strike scope: ![]() I did get a video of the before shots and I plan to take some of the afters...but wow what a difference. I might have not aligned everything perfectly inside, or maybe it is how it is supposed to be, but you really have to make sure you seat the chamber all the way back and forward before you pull the trigger or it chews up the darts. But before the darts could barely make it 30 feet down my hallway, especially with the barrel extension on it. Now they fly straight all the way down my hall and smash into my door, barrel extension or not. Nice! Re: Project Halloween Costume (Longstrike Mod!) - Evan - 10-31-2012 so its gametime. you ever finish your redneck costume?
Re: Project Halloween Costume (Longstrike Mod!) - WRXtranceformed - 10-31-2012 I have! haha. I haven't gotten the gun painted yet though. I may swing by my buddy's house and lay in the grass to scare trick or treaters. Haha |
