SCCA Rallycross at Summit 10/14 - CodyB - 10-04-2012 So I'm thinking about trying my hand at Rallycross and was wondering if anybody else has tried one of these events at Summit / if anybody else would want to do this one with me. Event Info: http://www.wdcr-scca.org/DesktopModules ... entId=4936 Re: SCCA Rallycross at Summit 10/14 - NTIman - 10-04-2012 I'll be in Virginia Beach that weekend. As much as it sounds like fun, I probably wouldn't do one unless I had a dedicated car. I imagine the terrain and the dust is probably a little harder on a car than a regular autocross. Goodspeed has said in other threads that most of the cars there are "rustic," so that kind of makes me want to keep away from them myself. But by all means, if you want to do one, do it. Just report back to us on how it went. Re: SCCA Rallycross at Summit 10/14 - CodyB - 10-04-2012 NTIman Wrote:I'll be in Virginia Beach that weekend. Yea I'm definitely taking off my front bumper and headlights. I bought my car to race it though and it seems like a good time. Re: SCCA Rallycross at Summit 10/14 - ScottyB - 10-04-2012 that is supposed to be a great venue and always a good turnout. there are videos of it all over youtube. the surface can sometimes be so grippy that its like a clay dirt oval...street tires will even grip. however its also rough in places so you should be prepared to bottom out. i'd go for the experience but conserve your car, learn what you may need later, then come back and do it some more! I know one friend who lost his front bumper doing this at Summit so I'll definitely take that off. I may even raise my car up if my coilovers will budge. Re: SCCA Rallycross at Summit 10/14 - Jake - 10-05-2012 I really want to do Rallycross, my buddy Alex did it in his (very clean) 2006 BMW 330xi. ![]() Unfortunately, that weekend is also NASA at VIR, and I will be there having a good ol' time as it is. Definitely down to do this another weekend though. The Miata hasn't seen that much dirt since I flew off the uphill esses at VIR and almost went to Hogwarts

Do they allow verts? Re: SCCA Rallycross at Summit 10/14 - CodyB - 10-05-2012 Unfortunately, from what I understand of the rules you need a hardtop on your convertible. I'm really looking forward to this now, Summit is so close to JMU that I may as well go for it. Re: SCCA Rallycross at Summit 10/14 - SlimKlim - 10-05-2012 I've always really wanted to try a rallycross. Like a lot. Unfortunately my parents are in town that weekend or I'd ride out there just to spectate. Maybe next time though. Re: SCCA Rallycross at Summit 10/14 - Ken - 10-05-2012 That picture makes me want to try so badly. Definitely considering. The other two cars in my class are a gti and an integra. Re: SCCA Rallycross at Summit 10/14 - ScottyB - 10-06-2012 Ken Wrote:That picture makes me want to try so badly. Definitely considering. you're procuring snow tires, correct? those are the universal Poor Man's Rally Tire and should work awesome  . just keep them highly inflated since the sidewalls are soft and might want to come off the bead. |
