Re: Automotive News Discussion - Jake - 06-28-2016

Back to TG US for a brief moment - my roommate has all of the seasons on our server so I tried watching a more recent episode, where they build a snowplow out of a shorty school bus. Looked interesting enough and at the start, you see Tanner drifting the shit out of their late-80s Chevy bus, pre-mods.

[Image: I23143366.jpg]

They then "reveal the upgrades" and son of a bitch, the bus itself is now ten years newer and obviously not the same model they started with.

[Image: screen-shot-2014-06-24-at-15-20-40.jpg]

That pissed me off so much I just cut it off. If the show/producers/hosts can't handle basic continuity, then good riddance. Either tell us why you ended up getting a newer bus or use the same one for everything.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 06-28-2016

That is terrible for a car guy show. Of course we will notice something like that. In a movie you can get away with that because the vast majority of people won't notice/don't care. What a joke.

^^this.

You'll start to see a bunch of Jettas and Passats stuffed with like 15 insurgents blasting their AKs in the air on CNN in a couple of years.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Senor_Taylor - 06-28-2016

Jake, TG seems to do that kind of often. I take it more of "This is what it would look like with the upgrades" even if they are trying to imply it's the same one.

US Justice Department says good try, but no can't do that either. Their consent decree released yesterday:
Quote:All Eligible Vehicles returned to Settling Defendants through the Recall Program shall be rendered inoperable by removing the vehicle’s Engine Control Unit (“ECU”) and may be, to the extent possible, recycled to the extent permitted by law.

Settling Defendants may elect to resell or sell any returned Eligible Vehicle or any 2.0 Liter Subject Vehicle in the United States, provided, however, that Settling Defendants first modify the particular vehicle in accordance with the applicable Approved Emissions Modification ...

Settling Defendants may not export or arrange for the export of 2.0 Liter Subject Vehicles, unless such vehicle has been modified in accordance with the applicable Approved Emissions Modification ...

Wow, so they have to pay to do the modifications either way if they want to resell, then firesale them since they will perform worse and get worse mileage (until someone tunes them :twisted: )

Probably easier / cheaper to rip the ECUs out and sell them for parts / scrap to large parts buyers

Re: Automotive News Discussion - BLINGMW - 06-29-2016

So the cars must be dismantled. The environment is not surprised.

BLINGMW Wrote:So the cars must be dismantled. The environment is not surprised.

Would love to see the overall environmental impact of dismantling thousands of cars and replacing them with new ones vs just letting the old ones do their thing.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Sully - 06-30-2016

Rip motor out, replace with gas engine?

Think there would be a way, although possibly costly, of modifying existing cars with new parts and tunes to meet requirements but also keep performance specs. :dunno:

The Aston Martin/Red Bull collabo takes shape:

[Image: ma-002.jpg]

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-news/first-official-pictures/aston-martin/no-bull-aston-martin-and-red-bull-racing-reveal-am-rb-001-hypercar/">http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-news/f ... -hypercar/</a><!-- m -->

Looks like they've walked back a little bit on the 'faster than a F1 car on track' claim, but maybe that's where they'll aim on the track-only variant. Either way, this looks properly bonkers and actually breaks new ground for hypercars in a way I feel like the 918/LaFerrari/P1 didn't. Also much more interesting to me than the Veyron/Chiron. What a day it will be when one of these shows up to the track.

I was waiting for something like this to happen.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - G.Irish - 07-06-2016

M2 CSL greenlit:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2016/07/05/german-media-says-bmw-m2-csl-received-green-light/">http://www.bmwblog.com/2016/07/05/germa ... een-light/</a><!-- m -->

Originally I was very interested in this but if it has no backseats like the M4 GTS it's a no go for me unfortunately =/ If I'm gonna spend that kind of money for 2 seater I'm gonna get more of a pure sports car like a 4C or Cayman, although this will probably be faster than a Cayman S. BMW finding it's performance roots again is encouraging though.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 07-07-2016

Those wheels need Jesus. Confusedhock:

I pretty much love all of the CSL/GTS/LTW variants they can spit out though, I've always dreamed of mimicking how the factory might've done an "E36 GTS" but the parts list ends up in the five-digit range real quick. If I ever win the lottery though...

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Sully - 07-19-2016

So I haven't really followed it at all. If you live in a area with no emissions testing, provided you can get it for stupid cheap, is there any reason to buy a newer tdi vehicle. Are the mpgs really bad or just not as good as advertised. Will you even be allowed to own one. I guess it wouldn't be worth anything for resale and idk how the buyback works, doubt anyone would sell it privately for less than they get for buyback. Thought just crossed my mind.
