G.Irish Wrote:Game, set, match. PS4 will be $400, no used games DRM, no online DRM, no restrictions on loaning or renting. Backwards compatibility via streaming won't be here until next year apparently. Not sure how the costs are gonna work out on that. With a PS Plus subscription you get what looks like a free indie game every month. It did kinda sound like you needed to pay up for PS Plus to get multiplayer on PS4, not sure on that.

As far as exclusive games there wasn't much that got me excited, GT6 for PS3 looked really good, and a new FPS game The Order 1886 looked decent. No indication whatsoever as to what launch games will be available.

The Destiny demo looked interested, it looks there's ad hoc multiplayer co-op where 6+ people can randomly join a big battle to fight with you. Unfortunately it won't be out till 2014.

All in all Sony's conference was better than MSFT's. They really could've just revealed the price and the lack of DRM and it would've been winner. But a lot of the gameplay looked fun and most of the major franchises are gonna be on both platforms.

My assessment also. I don't like the lack of backwards compatibility, but it matters less if I'm going to, you know, change platforms.

I'm still waiting to see what GabeN has to say about the steambox, but it might be time to think about selling my 360 while it's still worth something.

Meh. Neither was really a big deal to me to start with, still going Xbox1. Interesting to see how this will play out, MFST pretty much punted the hardcore gamer crowd, guess the question is whether the casual gamer + simplified home entertainment crowd is enough to even that out.

If anything I think Battlefield is for people who value tactics and teamwork more than the typical CoD player. The thing with that gameplay demo was there was so much fog and smoke and shit that it looked seriously difficult to ID targets and get a good shot off. Which I think in some ways is the point.

BF4 will have 64 player multiplayer and people on tablets can join too and direct ordnance. Sounds like it'll be a fair bit more fun that COD Dogs. Same with Titanfall.

I think that's been a problem for many years now. All of the really good games are cross platform. Back in the day there was a stark difference in exclusives. Now it usually just comes down to exclusive DLC and pre-order bonuses.

Xbox had Killer Instinct, Titanfall, and Forza 5 but I could easily do without all three. Killer Instict was awesome back in the day but I don't even play fighting games much any more, and who knows how it'll compare to current versions of Tekken and MK. Titanfall looked pretty badass but it'll be coming to 360 too anyway. Skipping Forza 5 is gonna hurt me but GT6 will be out this year (on PS3 =/ ) so I guess I'll be returning to Gran Turismo. I just hope they fixed all of the glaring problems from GT5.

Having to say goodbye to Halo will kinda suck, but Bungie has moved on anyway, so I'm sure I'll be happy with that. The gameplay demo of Destiny looked cool but the graphics didn't leave me impressed. MGS5 has been the best looking game so far.

To be honest the only Sony exclusive that looks like something I'd buy was The Order 1886. Infamous 2 looked cool but not typically the kind of game I play. I like FPS's but I don't see any reason to get Killzone 4 over BF4 or Titanfall. Seems like Sony should've had GT6 for PS4 at the least.

The more I think about it, the more I'm probably going to be the XB1. Most of the games I play are pretty casual and I'm really looking for an entertainment machine versus a console gamer. The wife is also interested in the Kinect, but I said we should wait for the next version. I consider the two devices the same price when you factor in the Kinect, so that's a wash. As for DRM? Meh, I don't think it really bothers me.

Re: XBOX 360 - Gamertags in 1st post - Mike - 06-11-2013

i'm currently leaning ps4.

xb1 isn't selling itself. it only seems to win w/ kinect, but i could care less about that bit of tech.

I think your proximity to Redmond has infected your decision making process. Soon you'll be buying a Windows Phone and Surface tablet.

Only people on the Eastside (Redmond, Kirkland, Bellevue) have Windows phones. Seriously, like everyone over there have them. It's a sickness.

I got one a few weeks ago. It's fast, and awesome. The app store is missing a few things, but the only thing I really miss so far is the Amazon MP3 app...

This is hilarious, and sad

Quote:Killer Instinct is a free digital-only Xbox One launch title, but you will have to pay for all the characters, which consist of both old faces and newcomers. In fact, the only character available for free is Jago, while the rest will be available for a price to be announced at a later date.

Not being developed by Rare, free 2 play...doesn't sound like this is gonna be a high quality title =/

Re: XBOX 360 - Gamertags in 1st post - Steve85 - 06-11-2013

If the PS4 supports the Netflix / Hulu stuff and will allow me to display videos / pics from my PC, I can put the $100 I was going to spend on the blu-ray towards this and my effective price is $299. Fixing the broke XBOX is probably going to be around $150 so I'm really looking at about $150 extra dollars.

That's pretty cheap for a new 24/7 live-in babysitter.

Sony definitely played it right at E3 I would have done the same thing. We're such a social-fueled world now, if the buzz around XB1 is negative then drive it home. I have to be honest I am with Mike now too. The only game I ever really care about playing on XBL is Call of Duty so as long as I can play it on Sony's servers and have a piece of hardware that doesn't RROD every year then I may be a convert. Any other game that is worth playing is usually cross-platform.
