This little fucker fried its motherboard on Friday night. I stole the upgrade on my Mom's line and got an iPhone 6s because I was just tired of dealing with it's bullshit anyway.

It was a fun experiment but it's good to be home, you android people are masochists.

Considering Toni spends at least an hour on the line with Apple "Genuis," or whatever, every month because XYZ isn't working on her iPhone 6; i'll leave that up to individual experience. I haven't had an issue with My S5,6 or 7.

That seems odd. What kind of issues did she typically have? In 3 iPhones I have never once I had to call about an issue. Emily walked into Apple the other day after not getting missed call notifications or voice mails and walked out with a new phone.

Yeah I can't recall any serious issues I have had with an Android phone in the last few generations. My old GS4 power button physically broke after like 3 or 4 years and they gave me a new one...the new one was plenty fast before I used my upgrade for the S7, which is a complete powerhouse and a joy to use.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - SlimKlim - 06-20-2016

Yeah I never had a single issue with my 2 previous iPhones. My Android experiences have always been slogged down with hard to describe issues like sometimes opening an app instantly, but other times the animation seems a bit glitchy. Or the keyboard letting my type a whole word before it catches up. Or bluetooth streaming quality going to shit unless I did a full reboot every 2-3 days. And even then still causing a brief pause in the music every time you put the phone to sleep. Or this cute thing where the wake button wouldn't work for about 25 presses so you just had to mash it until something happened. Or the "double tap" screen wake feature being a total crapshoot as to whether it would work or not.

I would echo that sentiment with the two Androids I've had. I guess I've grown to expect 90% reliability. But every time I pick up someone else's iPhone and try to do something, I expect 90% chance of getting frustrated because I cannot figure it out or it won't do/allow obvious things and me throwing it back at them.
But I would agree the iPhone hardware and software is more reliable. If I don't smash them.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - SlimKlim - 06-20-2016

I'm far from an Apple fanboi, I am fully aware of their plentiful shortcomings, its just in my experience iPhones have done what I needed them to do, when I needed them to do it. That LG almost ended up getting thrown out of the car window when I needed to make a call or check directions RIGHT THAT SECOND and it temporarily forgot what the lock button was supposed to do.

I would say that with Android you get some more cutting-edge tech or features, (The camera on that LG was still better than even this improved iPhone 6S camera (mostly in how it processes the color, much better saturation on the LG), the PS4 second screen/remote control feature was neat, and of course the ability to use the Torque app) as a trade-off for general device reliability and consistent software performance. Apple will always be cock-blocking you with those features that they could've implemented but simply chose not to, but the device will always work.

Also, I'd be willing to wager that if I did have a hardware problem within the factory warranty of an Apple device, the Apple store wouldn't give me this bullshit runaround I've gotten from LG and Verizon this morning.

EDIT: And even though I haven't tried it I'm guessing all that Apple vs. Android stuff doesn't apply to the Nexus. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of those vague software issues you get with a lot of Android devices is due purely to the insane amount of carrier bloat.

Don't really know or care, anytime it's Apple related and she has some issue and gives me a puppy face i tell her to call the apple support. PC? Sure i can fix it. Android? I can give it a good shot. Apple? No clue and no motivation to learn. I want to say that most of the time it's that her imessage stops working and the messages won't go through even after a reboot (hard and soft.) She also had a bunch of issues with how the icloud was working (or not,) and also had some issue where her volume buttons just stopped working.

Costco has a deal on the netgear nighthawk router. Marked down to $200. It's the one with the 6 antennas. Anyone have any experience with them? Seems like it might be super overkill for what I need but I wouldn't think I'd need an upgrade for awhile.

What the hell do you need six antennas for? MIMO for days.

That's usually what like a $300 router? I've heard it's beastly, you probably wouldn't have to upgrade it for a long time. But as with anything read the reviews, I saw a display ad on Facebook about it and a bunch of people were complaining about theirs.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Sully - 06-23-2016

Normally 250 at Costco for the one made for costco (similar insides I think with a different product number) $280 on amazon I think.

The non costco one is an amazon recommended pick and seems to have favorable reviews.

Sigh, i don't know why i continue to feed into this, but i do.

Just buy this. Cheaper, works fantastic in several houses i installed it in with 4-5 users. You'll be fine.

Did you ever have comcast/verizon come out to troubleshoot?

Think it has been asked before but maybe there are new opinions.

Curved TVs? What does everyone think of them? Amazon has a deal $650 for a 55" samsung. Not sure how much of a deal it really is but I'm curious if it'd be better viewing or if it'll just give you a headache after awhile and if things formatted for TV would just look weird on it.

I've heard good things - also on that TV in particular it also has HDR which is nice.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Sully - 07-12-2016

Seems like the main difference between the higher up samsungs is motion rate and some other screen "tech" but I'm not sure i need 240 refresh rate and I'm sure this one is better than what I currently have at least. Just wondering if it's really that great of a deal.

They also have the 5.1 vizio soundbar (2014 model) for $200 but I didn't think the new ones were that much more
