Thanks Evan. I have the 99 top hats on the car already (did them when I got my coilovers). What would you want for the 99 coil pack? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Re: Project: 1995 Miata - Jake - 04-09-2013 Just placed the "big order" from Mazda. $488 later (yes, you BMW-freaks like DJ will claim this is cheap for what I got but it's still a big order) I got all of this:
Going to get the motor up on the stand this week and start turning some wrenches. I have the new thrust bearing, so I can drop the oil pan and replace that. Then it's a waiting game for the new parts. About half of this can be done to the new motor before the old one comes out of the car. I will need to get the old motor out so I can take the flywheel to get re-surfaced. I really, really don't want to know how much I've dropped into this car since buying it in 2008... just glad the wheels are a'turning to have her running right again!! Re: Project: 1995 Miata - V1GiLaNtE - 04-09-2013 Holla if you need a hand turning wrenches. Re: Project: 1995 Miata - Jake - 04-09-2013 V1GiLaNtE Wrote:Holla if you need a hand turning wrenches. You know I will... Project: 1995 Miata - Jake - 04-11-2013 Big thanks to Joey, David, David and Cabell for the help tonight. We got the motor up on the stand so I can begin spinning some wrenches. Already pulled the (nasty) spark plugs and the exhaust manifold/heat shield. Did a quick test fit of my cheapo Raceland header... I'm going to need to either block off the EGR system, or extend the little pipe somehow. The 99 system isn't long enough to bolt to the 95 header, and I'm not sure if the 95 EGR will fit right either. Won't know until I pull the old block and take it apart. Good news is, several companies make block-off kits for $Cheap. Picking up a crapton of OEM parts tomorrow in Arlington, then we can really get moving on this. Project: 1995 Miata - FlaakCM - 04-11-2013 Awesome! Let me know next time, I'll lend a hand Re: Project: 1995 Miata - navin - 04-12-2013 Pressure wash/degrease that thing before it goes back in the car! I have a pressure washer if you need to borrow one. Re: Project: 1995 Miata - V1GiLaNtE - 04-12-2013 Mmmmmm Raceland bling. Thanks for the brews and grub! I'll be back! Re: Project: 1995 Miata - Jeff - 04-13-2013 Looks great! The parts spend was low, its not just the BMW guys that will tell you that...my cost on a fuel injector (yes, one) for a 6.7L Cummins is like $400. The parts spend was low, its not just the BMW guys that will tell you that...my cost on a fuel injector (yes, one) for a 6.7L Cummins is like $400. Holy crap. There's some perspective right there. So, after I got home from JMU on Sunday (great carshow this year, guys) I decided that über-sunburn be damned, I might as well start spinning a wrench on this car. I stopped in Strasburg on the way home and picked up the Memoryfab seats that were in Joe's Miata. The problem with most seats is the width. I really, really didn't want to hammer on my transmission tunnel to make seats fit, which is why the Sparco and Momo that I already have never made it to the car. These Memoryfab's came with slider brackets and dropped right in. The stock seatbelts are retained - I moved the buckle to the trans tunnel as there is already a bolt hole for it (the 90-93 cars have the buckle there, versus seat-mounted). I have two six-point harnesses that are ready to go in, but I felt that drilling through my floor after a weekend of beer, excessive sun and not enough sleep would be in poor taste. I did get the car up in the air and start removing some things. So far, the catback has been removed as has the washer fluid bottle and all of the (nasty, moldy, eww) tubing. I stopped after yanking those parts, because I sat up and slammed my head into the open drawer of my tool chest... figured it was time to call it a day. There's plenty of room to work on the car now, and I have a feeling that many a night will be spent pulling parts off. Project: 1995 Miata - Jake - 04-15-2013 More progress today after work. Turning wrenches for a few hours can be a nice way to escape reality (see: this afternoon's news). I drained the oil and coolant, yanked the fans, intake, expansion tank, radiator, and cruise control. Disconnected the throttle and cruise control lines, too. Joey removed the center console and unbolted the shifter. There isn't much to do before the old motor can be pulled. I need to drain the trans and diff fluid, remove the rest of the exhaust and the driveshaft, and unplug a bunch of wiring. Beyond that, the new motor needs to be gone through and we can swap it in. Re: Project: 1995 Miata - Tyler.M - 04-18-2013 looks fun man, I'd love to help you out. Re: Project: 1995 Miata - Jake - 04-26-2013 Moar Updates! Exhaust and driveshaft are removed. Fluids are drained. Coolant lines are yanked. Power steering pump and A/C compressor are un-bolted from the block and zip-tied in place. Electrical connectors are unplugged and labeled. I think it's about time to pull this sumbitch out of the car. Project: 1995 Miata - D_Eclipse9916 - 04-26-2013 Is the new motor all ready to go in? Re: Project: 1995 Miata - Jake - 04-26-2013 D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:Is the new motor all ready to go in? Not quite. Joe Zarella is coming over on Monday to help me do the thrust bearing, and then I also need to do the timing belt & water pump (anyone who's done this before, please come help!). I also want to paint the valve cover (because icy-hot-stunna status). ]Then the new motor is ready. Re: Project: 1995 Miata - JustinG - 04-26-2013 Are you keeping the a/c? And nope, already purchased some Duplicolor engine paint in a color that is yet-to-be-named. Not red or black. Something more... me. Everyone always thought it was powdercoated... lol Re: Project: 1995 Miata - SlimKlim - 04-26-2013 ispoonwithmugen Wrote:Teal? I tried. |
