- Mike - 06-25-2007 bouncy bouncy bouncy pantttts! - ScottyB - 06-25-2007 hahaha, i hope you had fun cleaning off the back of your car, Hunter - Apoc - 06-25-2007 On an unrelated note... I found out what Andy's "don't joke about" topic is. Rickshaw drifting, however, is in-bounds. - Mike - 06-26-2007 i did some writing today: http://www.iammike.org/index.php?subact ... m=&ucat=2& - .RJ - 06-26-2007 If you want to make the car faster... suspension/tires will make the biggest difference in laptimes - IMO of course A B16 trans should make for a solid improvement as well, the stock LS gearing stinks. LSD doesnt help that much, but still worth some time and they're cheap.
- Mike - 06-26-2007 do what with suspension and tires though? suspension i'll consider, but tires? i'm sticking with what's cheap. - .RJ - 06-26-2007 Mike Wrote:tires? i'm sticking with what's cheap. Ok.... suspension (shocks, springs, barz) and gearing then. - Mike - 06-26-2007 my shocks and springs aren't exactly crap... i know there is better out there, but is it really worth the cost? bars? nobody has yet to tell me why... if i can do what i want with springs, they make no sense. i've posed that question a handful of times on various forums. - .RJ - 06-26-2007 Its a voodoo thing. I never liked how the car handled without bars... some may differ. Why not run massive bars and no springs? I dunno... I think a 21mm front/23 mm rear bar is a good setup, cheaply done with OEM parts. Good shocks wont make the car really any faster, but they will make the car easier to drive - which, in turn could motivate you go faster. More voodoo inside the dampers too. - Mike - 06-26-2007 i don't buy in to voodoo... i'm pretty happy with the way the car handles and brakes right now... i know there is room for improvement, but i'm very budget-concious and don't want to put money where i don't REALLY need to. i'm unhappy with how quickly it can get out of corners so more power is the obvious answer imo ![]() i suppose i'll consider some sways soon... as long as i put them on together, the car should remain pretty balanced. i just hate having parts lie around
- .RJ - 06-26-2007 Mike Wrote:more power is the obvious answer imo I didnt touch that since you said you wanted to leave the motor alone... how much HP are bolt-ons going to get you at what cost? - Mike - 06-26-2007 oh i know they're not the best bang for the buck... boosty would be, but that's not really an option. the bolt-ons have to be done at some point, and most of them will be compatible with a new motor when i get to it... new exhaust should free up some weight as well as add some power, intake manifold, header, and a good hondata tune? might see 15hp from all of that... couple it with a better tranny and i think it'd hold me over for another couple years. or maybe i should think about lsvtec... hrm... edit: please post replies in my car thread... don't want to muck this up too badly. - white_2kgt - 06-26-2007 Mike Wrote:bars? nobody has yet to tell me why... if i can do what i want with springs, they make no sense. i've posed that question a handful of times on various forums. You run a bar so you don't have to run such a high spring rate. You don't want just an uber stiff suspension but you DO want it stiff in roll, which is what rollbars help achieve. - navin - 06-26-2007 ![]() DJ? - Mike - 06-26-2007 white_2kgt Wrote:Mike Wrote:bars? nobody has yet to tell me why... if i can do what i want with springs, they make no sense. i've posed that question a handful of times on various forums. well i KNOW that, but if i have yet to achieve too high a spring rate and the car isn't rolling a gross amount in corners, there is no point. although maybe it IS rolling a bit too much based on the UCAs hitting the shock mount this weekend? hrmph. the reason i think i'm stiff enough is because the car slides quite a bit (overworking tires)... stiffening it up is only going to worsen that. - JustinG - 06-26-2007 navin Wrote: HAHA your poor lip, it is destroyed - .RJ - 06-26-2007 Mike Wrote:stiffening it up is only going to worsen that. No it wont. Adding more roll stiffness will keep the car off the bumpstops and hard parts from hitting the frame, and you can run more camber. - Mike - 06-26-2007 .RJ Wrote:Mike Wrote:stiffening it up is only going to worsen that. i don't think it's on the bumpstops... and i don't think anything is hitting anything else. they were at the beginning of the weekend, but i solved that by unslamming the front. - .RJ - 06-26-2007 Have you checked shock travel with zip ties on the shock shafts? How much bump travel do you have? How much spring travel do you have before coil bind? At your ride height, and ~600 lb springs with no swaybar you are on the bumpstops, no question. - Mike - 06-26-2007 aight, we'll check it next event. |
